FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Carlos Carrasco, CLE vs. TB ($10,400): With a short slate, there aren't many good pitching options, but Carrasco appears to be in a good spot against the Rays. Tampa Bay has a healthy .323 wOBA against righties this season, but the Rays strike out at a very high rate. Tampa Bay ranks last in the league in K% against righties at 26%. Carrasco is generally good for 6-8 strikeouts per game, but he'll probably push the higher end of that number against the Rays.

CATCHER

Yasmani Grandal, LAD at SF ($2,900): Grandal has been on a tear lately, averaging 17.3 fantasy points over his past six games. He'll face Matt Cain, who has improved his overall performance this season but is still struggling with lefties. Opposing lefties have posted a .384 wOBA against Cain this season, which plays right into Grandal's hands since he's a better hitter from the left side. Grandal's wOBA against righties this season is .394, which is .150 higher than his number against lefties.

FIRST BASE

Eric Thames, MIL at SD ($4,200):Luis Perdomo takes the hill for the Padres and unlike last season, Perdomo is actually serviceable. With that said, the reason his overall numbers look better is due to his ability to get righties out. He's still struggling with lefties, as they have posted a .456 wOBA against him this season. Luckily for the Brewers, they have a couple capable lefties and none better than Thames, who has a .431 wOBA against righties this season.

SECOND BASE

Danny Espinosa, LAA vs. CHW ($2,500): With a Carrasco in your lineup, you'll need to find value somewhere and Espinosa looks like a good option on the cheap. Espinosa is not having a good season, but with Yunel Escobar heading to the DL, there might be a chance for Espinosa to step in and find some stability. Also, Espinosa has hit well over his last two games and has solid career numbers against White Sox starter Mike Pelfry.

SHORTSTOP

Allen Cordoba, SD vs. MIL ($2,000): Cordoba came through Saturday with 21.7 points. This wasn't the first time he had a big night though, as he posted a 28.9-point outing just two weeks ago against the Giants. He's not a reliable hitter, but at his minimal price, he's worth the risk against Chase Anderson.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, AZ vs. NYM ($3,500): Lamb hit a rough patch about a week ago, which lowered his price significantly, but he has started to turn things around over his last four games. Lamb struggles against southpaws but is an all-star caliber hitter against righties. While Mets starter Zack Wheeler hasn't been horrible, Lamb should be able to take advantage of the matchup based on his .396 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

OUTFIELD

Mike Trout, LAA vs. CHW ($5,400): Trout is an obvious choice on this slate against Pelfry, as he's hitting righties at a very high clip this season (.485 wOBA, good for seventh in the majors).

Jose Bautista, TOR vs. ATL ($4,000): Braves starter Bartolo Colon has surrendered five-plus runs in his past three starts and four-plus in five of seven this season. Bautista got off to a horrible start, but he's really turned things around in the past week. Joey Bats is averaging 9.3 fantasy points per game on the year, but that number over his past five games is up to 20.84.

Kevin Pillar, TOR vs. ATL ($3,900): Unlike Bautista, Pillar has hit well for most of the season. He's averaging 11.1 fantasy points per game and like Bautista, he's been on fire lately with an average of 20.5 over his last four. Pillar has been much better against lefties this season than righties, but he still has a healthy wOBA of .348 against righties.
