Weekly Pitcher Rankings: Cole Spins Way to Top Spot

Weekly Pitcher Rankings: Cole Spins Way to Top Spot

This article is part of our Weekly Pitcher Rankings series.

This week is a good microcosm of the current pitching landscape with more arms at the extremes and fewer clustered in the middle. Either you're able to navigate the minefield that is the record-setting homer pace, or you're not. The odd thing is minimizing homers isn't necessarily the answer as Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander among others have surrendered more than their fair share but aren't giving up much of anything else.

We're at the point in the season where managing ratios is paramount. Keep in mind these rankings favor strikeouts and wins, so if you're in a tight ratio battle, some of the rankings of the higher strikeout pitchers could be misleading.

You know the deal by now, these are preliminary rankings based on information available. Many teams will firm up plans this weekend, not to mention trades can go down at any time. An update will be posted Sunday night.

For the week of July 22-28.
