Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

The last Monday of the regular season will be a quiet one since there are only five games on the schedule. However, it's one of our last opportunities to win some money on Yahoo, so let's not let it go to waste. Here are some of the better players to consider for your entry.

Pitching Overview

Patrick Corbin ($48) carries both the highest floor and the highest upside out of all of the pitching options. He enters this contest against the Phillies with a 3.10 ERA, 3.36 FIP and a 1.16 WHIP. He's only allowed 1.0 HR/9, which is impressive in the current homer-happy environment. Across 19 innings against the Phillies, he's allowed only seven runs while recording 24 strikeouts. Expect him to be one of the more popular pitching options for this slate.

The Mets will turn to Steven Matz ($40) to try and keep their playoff hopes alive against the Marlins. He was torched for seven runs over four innings in his last start against the Rockies, although that game did take place in Coors Field. Matz has been awful on the road this season, but he has a 3.20 FIP and a 1.11 WHIP at home. Add in facing the bad Marlins' lineup and he could provide plenty of value.

As we work our way down the price scale, things thin out quickly due to the limited slate. One pitcher to maybe take a chance on is Alex Young ($34) at home against the Cardinals. He's allowed three earned runs or fewer in six straight starts and has managed to record an impressive 1.16 WHIP through his first 15 appearances in the majors. While his 4.49 FIP puts a bit of a damper on his 3.27 ERA, he's cheap enough to at least warrant consideration.

Key Values/Chalk

In a matchup between the two bottom teams in the AL East, the Blue Jays will host Chandler Shepherd and the Orioles. The former Red Sox prospect posted a 1.35 WHIP with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate this season and has a 1.45 WHIP through his first three appearances in the majors. There are several appealing options on the Blue Jays to target, including Cavan Biggio ($24). He's finishing off the season on a high note having hit 14-for-45 (.422) with three home runs, three doubles, two triples and three steals over his last 11 games.

Staying in that same game, the Orioles are also a lineup to consider against Clay Buchholz. He just faced them in his last outing and was rocked for seven runs and two home runs over 3.2 innings. That makes three straight starts in which he has allowed at least four runs. Trey Mancini ($22) sat out Sunday's game because of leg soreness, but he would be a great option if he returns to the lineup. Jonathan Villar ($20) is also someone to target since he has a .348 wOBA against right-handed pitchers compared to a .317 wOBA versus lefties.

Stacks

Nationals vs. Zach Eflin (Phillies)

Anthony Rendon (3B - $25), Juan Soto (OF - $24), Trea Turner (SS - $19)

The Nationals will look to tighten their grip on a Wild Card spot against their division rivals and are viable options against Eflin. They are an excellent offensive team at home, posting a 110 wRC+ there compared to a 95 wRC+ on the road. Rendon has been in a bit of a funk lately and it might not be a coincidence that the Nationals have been playing a lot on the road. With his 165 wRC+ at home, this might be just the game that he needs to get back on track.

Mets vs. Caleb Smith (Marlins)

Pete Alonso (1B - $19), Wilson Ramos (C - $13), Todd Frazier (3B - $16)

Smith is struggling as we approach the finish line, recording a 5.80 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP over his last 10 starts. While he's been a handful at home, his 5.84 FIP away from Marlins Park could mean he's in for another long night here on the road. He's allowed 1.9 HR/9, overall, leaving Alonso with tremendous upside. Ramos has a 153 wRC+ against lefties, making him one of the top catching options for this slate.

Rays vs. Jhoulys Chacin (Red Sox)

Austin Meadows (OF - $27), Tommy Pham (OF - $20), Nate Lowe (1B - $7)

Chacin likely won't pitch very deep into this contest considering he's logged 2.2 innings or fewer in each of his four appearances with the Red Sox. That means a bullpen game for the Rays to try and exploit. Meadows is the player to build a Rays stack around with him hitting 31-for-86 (.360) with nine home runs and seven doubles across his lastpw 22 games. Pham is also having another excellent campaign with 20 home runs and 23 steals to go along with a .351 wOBA.
