Travis Lakins

The Red Sox gave Lakins a look down the stretch in 2019 and did not like what they saw, so they designated him for assignment in January of 2020. The Cubs traded for him after the DFA but left Lakins exposed to waivers and the right-hander changed teams again 10 days later, joining the Orioles. Lakins was a relative bright spot for Baltimore, pitching to a 2.81 ERA in 22 appearances and even picking up his first career save. It looks mostly fluky since Lakins showed modest swing-and-miss ability (8.5 SwStr%) and spotty control (11.2 BB%). The walks speak to a lack of trust in his own stuff, which is understandable since he gave up some rockets when he did put the ball in the strike zone. Lakins will get a chance to prove the doubters wrong. It would be a surprise if he were to enter the saves picture, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
