2024 Fantasy Outlook
Martini came back to the States from Korea on a minor-league deal and spent most of the 2023 season at Triple-A Louisville, before the Reds selected his contract for the final two months to provide depth amid a rash of injuries. He provided a jolt for Cincinnati, going deep six times in 72 at-bats. He enters spring training in a competition for the final outfield spot along with Stuart Fairchild and Jose Barrero. Amazingly, the 33-year-old Martini still has a minor league option remaining, which could work against him, as both Fairchild and Barrero would need to clear waivers before a minor league assignment. Martini was told he made Cincinnati's Opening Day roster, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Reds made a few moves Friday, including reassigning Mike Ford to minor-league camp. Ford, who was later released by the organization, was limited defensively to first base, while Martini can play outfield and first base. That versatility will help manager David Bell navigate the opening month of the season when three projected regulars will be unavailable due to injury or suspension. Martini celebrated the news Friday by smashing his fourth spring home run. The 33-year-old, who launched six homers in 72 at-bats for the Reds in 2023, will also serve as the lefty power bat off the bench.

2019
A knee injury sidelined Martini for the first two months of the season, preventing him from building on the small-sample promise he showed in his rookie campaign in 2018. He was sent to the minors once healthy and only appeared in six big-league games for the Athletics before being waived in late August. The Padres picked him up and gave him 96 plate appearances down the stretch, in which he hit a modest .244/.344/.317. He did manage a much better .328/.432/.482 line for Triple-A Las Vegas, though it's hard to get excited about a 29-year-old's work in the minors. He's at least hit righties well in his limited big-league action, posting a .297/.395/.420 line over 256 plate appearances. Martini was claimed off waivers twice this offseason; first by the Reds and then by the Phillies. It seems more likely than not that he gets optioned to Triple-A to wait as depth in case injuries strike the big-league roster.
