Taylor Jones
26-Year-Old First Baseman1B
Houston Astros AAA
2020 Fantasy Outlook
Drafted out of Gonzaga in the 19th round of the 2016 draft, Jones is looking to make the major leagues as a position player after converting from the mound prior to his junior season. The late conversion helps explain why the Astros protected the 26-year old from the Rule-5 draft as he's older than most added to the 40-man roster at this stage of his development. At 6-foot-7, there are holes in Jones swing, albeit with plus power. Best suited for first base, Jones also played third base and outfield last season with Triple-A Round Rock. He spent the entire season with the Express, slashing .291/.388/.501 with a playable 21% strikeout rate and 13% walk rate. While his versatility could help Jones see big league time in 2020, Houston is stacked at corner infield and outfield so he'll need to bide his time on the farm until an opening presents itself.
