2024 Fantasy Outlook
The season slash line reads ugly at .203/.250/.343, but Doyle did some exciting things in spurts over the course of his rookie 2023 campaign, or at least enough to hint at future fantasy relevance. He stole 22 bases in 27 attempts while ranking in the 99th percentile among all major leaguers in sprint speed and he reached the double digits in home runs (10) on the second-to-last day of the regular season. Doyle also showed tremendous range in the outfield and a strong throwing arm, which are important elements in ensuring that he can maintain a starting role as his offensive development lags behind his already-elite defense. The 25-year-old is still too raw for draft-day consideration in standard mixed leagues, but it's easy to envision him becoming a popular waiver-wire pickup as 2024 rolls along. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Doyle has had a productive weekend series against the Blue Jays, as he's gone 4-for-9 with three runs scored, a homer and two RBI. He now has three long balls and a .909 OPS for the season but surprisingly has only one stolen base attempt. While Doyle's production may be coming in a different form than projected, he's nevertheless had a primarily positive start to the campaign.

Stat Review
How does Brenton Doyle compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • BB/K

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Impressing in first taste of MLB
OFColorado Rockies
May 24, 2023
Doyle has quickly established himself as Colorado's starting center fielder with a .759 OPS, four homers and seven stolen bases in his first 24 big-league games.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old received his first call-up to the big leagues in late April and made a strong early impression, going 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run in his second career game April 25. Doyle has continued to play well over the past month and has been a reliable defender in center field, though both his 36 percent strikeout rate and 5.3 percent walk rate could prove troublesome.

2020
Doyle was taken in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft out of Division II Shepherd University and has shown from the beginning an intriguing fantasy skill set with his ability to hit for power and steal bases. The 24-year-old put together a 20-20 season in 2022 between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque, popping 26 home runs and stealing 23 bases (while being caught just three times). The bad news is Doyle has also posted some prodigious strikeout totals, most recently fanning at a 31.2 percent rate last season (and walking at just a 5.1 percent rate). You can dream on Doyle's power/speed potential at Coors Field, and he's just a step away now after being added to the 40-man roster over the winter. The question will be whether Doyle can make enough contact for that to matter, and we don't have to look far for a cautionary tale with a similar skill set in Sam Hilliard.
Doyle is a Rockies prospect with plus raw power and plus speed, which should get the attention of dynasty managers right away. That said, he turns 23 in May and has never played official games above rookie ball, so his hit tool is very much to be determined. He put up comical numbers (185 wRC+) in the hitter-friendly Pioneer League, but that's basically par for the course for a player his age with his tools. Obviously slashing .383/.477/.611 is never a bad thing, and considering Colorado selected him in the fourth round in 2019 from a Division II school, this was proof that he was a prospect of note. He continued to make strides as one of the older prospects in the fall instructional league, setting up a highly-anticipated full-season debut. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound outfielder can handle all three outfield spots, and hopefully the Rockies have embraced an actual rebuild by the time he is big-league ready.
Doyle received $500,000 after the Rockies selected him in the fourth round out of Division II Shepherd University. He proceeded to lead the hitter-friendly Pioneer League in AVG (.383), OPS (1.088) and wRC+ (185). Doyle had a 47.0 Pull% and a 50.0 GB%, so while he is an above-average runner, his .484 BABIP is not supported at all by his batted-ball data. At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, his plus raw power is very real, but his speed may tick down in his mid-20s. He can handle all three outfield spots and did not show platoon splits in his first taste of pro ball. His 21.9 K% is higher than we would like from a 21-year-old hitter in rookie ball, but not glaringly high, while his 14.4 BB% was excellent. There are no obvious flaws with Doyle at this point, and we probably won't know how well the hit tool really is until he gets past the hitter's havens in Asheville and Lancaster and arrives at Double-A.
