Reginald Preciado
18-Year-Old ShortstopSS
Chicago Cubs  Rookie
2021 Fantasy Outlook
Preciado emerged as the top prospect from the Padres' impressive 2019 J-2 haul. At 16 years old, he signed for $1.3 million -- a record for a Panamanian prospect. While Preciado was in the middle of the pack in a deep Padres farm system, he quickly moved towards to the top of the Cubs' prospect rankings after being included in the return for Yu Darvish. As for his future, Preciado remains a difficult evaluation because he is entering only his age-18 season and has yet to play any affiliated ball. A switch-hitter, scouting reports reflect that Preciado can hit the ball with authority from both sides of the plate and has projectable power. Because he's likely to continue growing -- Preciado is currently listed at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds -- he may have to move off of shortstop, but he'd likely be able to find a home at third base or in the outfield. Crushing in rookie ball

Preciado has hit .379/.463/.534 with two homers, four steals, 10 RBI and 13 runs across his first 15 games for the rookie-level ACL Cubs.
The 18-year-old's first taste of affiliated ball could hardly be going better, and his prospect star is on the rise now that his promising scouting reports have turned into promising results at the dish. Preciado doesn't play a very sharp shortstop, but he's looked fine at third base so far, and that's probably his eventual landing spot. The Panamanian is several years from the majors, but he looks like one of the most promising young players in the low minors.
