2024 Fantasy Outlook
Acquired from the Angels in the Hunter Renfroe trade in November of 2022, Junk made just two appearances during his first year with the Brewers. The 28-year-old covered 140 innings at Triple-A Nashville last season and finished with an underwhelming 4.18 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 94:44 K:BB. A move to the bullpen could be on tap for Junk in 2024 given his plus-4.00 ERA and subpar strikeout numbers (6.9 K/9) at Triple-A over the previous two seasons. Read Past Outlooks
Sent back to minors
The Brewers optioned Junk to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Junk was roughed up for five runs on 13 hits and one walk over five relief innings in his three relief appearances with the Brewers. He had been mostly starting at Nashville prior to the promotion and could re-enter the Triple-A club's rotation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Better odds to start?
Junk may have an improved chance of making the Brewers' starting rotation after Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reported Tuesday that Aaron Ashby will be behind to begin camp due to shoulder fatigue.
ANALYSIS
Ashby missed time with shoulder inflammation last season, so the team may exercise additional caution this time around. Junk was acquired from the Angels in November and may have a hard time cracking the rotation, even if Ashby is unavailable for Opening Day. Junk has just seven big-league appearances under his belt and has a 4.74 ERA over 24.2 frames.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Angels acquired Junk from the Yankees in July of 2021 as part of the trade that sent Andrew Heaney to New York. Junk had an up-and-down initial taste of the majors, posting a 3.86 ERA and a 10:2 K:BB over 16.1 innings that season. He spent most of 2022 with Triple-A Salt Lake but had three scattered outings with the Angels. The right-hander looked good in his first start of the campaign, striking out eight batters in five scoreless innings but faltered in his next (and final) appearance, yielding six runs in 2.1 frames. Junk relies primarily on a fastball-slider combo -- the slider is the better offering, but the fastball is thrown with enough spin to be effective despite sitting in the low-to-mid-90s. He enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021 at Double-A while in the Yankees system, posting a 1.78 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 14 appearances. However, that performance looks like an outlier, as none of his his seasons before or since are on the same radar. That's not to say Junk won't be an effective big-leaguer, but he's not likely to evolve into a front-of-rotation starter. The Angels moved Junk to Milwaukee in November as part of a trade to acquire Hunter Renfroe. He's likely slated to start 2023 at Triple-A or in the big-league bullpen.
