Trail Blazers Defeat Grizzlies for Playoff Berth
The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Memphis Grizzles, 126-122, in the NBA Playoff Play-In Round on Saturday in Orlando.

In this unique playoff format, Portland was able to avoid an elimination game and officially capture the eighth-seed in the Western Conference. They did their damage in the first and fourth quarters, outscoring Memphis, 68-47. That big fourth quarter allowed them to overcome an eight-point deficit with eight minutes remaining, finishing on a 22-13 run. There were nine ties and six lead changes in total. The Trail Blazers recorded 12 steals and seven blocks while winning the turnover battle, 18-13. Portland also shot 35-of-41 from the free-throw line while Memphis connected on just 18-of-22. The Grizzlies lost despite shooting 49 percent from the field and 56 percent from three-point range.

Damian Lillard led the Trail Blazers with 31 points, two rebounds and 10 assists. C.J. McCollum totaled 29 points, three rebounds and two steals. Carmelo Antony amassed 21 points and three boards. Jusuf Nurkic collected 22 points, 21 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks. Gary Trent Jr. led the bench with eight points, three boards and five steals.

Ja Morant had a career-high 35 points to lead the Grizzlies, providing four rebounds and eight assists as well. Jonas Valanciunas tallied 22 points, 17 rebounds and six assists. Dillon Brooks generated 20 points, two rebounds and two assists while Kyle Anderson accumulated 10 points, six rebounds and nine assists. Brandon Clarke led the bench with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

This marks the end of the season for the Grizzlies, finishing with a 34-39 record in the regular season. The Trail Blazers ended up 35-39 and will now face the Los Angeles Lakers in the opening round of the playoffs.
