Rodney Hood was drafted in the first round (23rd overall pick) by the Utah Jazz. The rookie out of Duke appeared in 50 games for the Jazz, making 21 starts and averaging 21.3 minutes per contest. He translated that to per-game averages of 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists. In his NBA debut on Oct. 29 against Houston, Hood had five points and two rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. He scored in double-digits for the first time against the Raptors on Dec. 3, finishing with 10 points in 27 minutes. Overall, Hood scored in double-figures 16 times. On Mar. 16, Hood racked up 24 points, three boards and three dimes during a home win over the Hornets. His highest-scoring night of the season came against the Kings on April 5, when he put up 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Six days later, he went for 20 points in a win over Houston. Hood was named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for April. Hood's Jazz squad finished the year at 38-44 and did not qualify for the playoffs.2015
The second year swingman started all 79 games in which he appeared for the Utah Jazz, averaging 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest. He shot 42.0 percent from the field, including 35.9 percent from beyond the arc on 5.7 attempts per contest. The athletic wing also hit 86.0 percent of his free throws -- up nearly 10 percentage points from his rookie year. His highest-scoring game of the season came in a win over Memphis on Jan. 2, when he went for 32 points and eight rebounds on 10-of-20 shooting. On Jan. 20, Hood generated 29 points, six rebounds and five dimes during a win a loss at New York. Against the Lakers on Mar. 28, Hood produced 30 points in the first half, as he shot 11-of -13 from the field. And his eight made threes in that contest tied a Jazz franchise record. Hood appeared in 59 games for the Utah Jazz, making 55 starts. He averaged 12.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists over 27.0 minutes per game. The dynamic wing scored in double-digits 37 times and reached 20 points on 10 occasions. On Mar. 5 against Sacramento, Hood delivered a season-high 28 points. Against Dallas on Dec. 16, he put up 27 points, hitting seven of his eight attempts from beyond the arc. The Duke product grabbed a season-high seven rebounds in a win over the Mavericks on Nov. 2. He registered five assists in three different games -- most notably in a win over the Knicks on Nov. 6, when he added 18 points and six rebounds. Hood appeared in all 11 of Utah's playoff games, as the Jazz fell to the Warriors in four games in the second round. Hood began the season in Utah before being dealt to Cleveland in a three-team deal involving Sacramento in early February. On the heels of career-best or co-career-best marks from both the field (42.9 percent) and free-throw line (86.0 percent), Hood averaged 14.7 points, his best to date. Hood was a remarkably consistent scorer all season long. He posted double figures in 46 of his 60 appearances, including 11 games of 20 or more points and three contests in which Hood poured in 30 or more points. Hood also drained better than two (2.1) threes per game for the first time in his career. In his best effort of the season, November 18 against Orlando, Hood nailed seven shots from downtown. Those seven threes (along with a season-high 31 points) came in just over 26 minutes worth of playing time. While best known for his scoring, Hood is more than just an outside shooter. He also excelled at ball security, recording just 1.2 turnovers per night despite averaging 26.9 minutes. Hood tallied at least one theft in 32 of his 60 games.2018
Hood began the 2018-19 season in Cleveland, where he appeared in 45 games and averaged 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. He scored in double-figures in seven straight games to start the season, punctuated by a 26-point performance in a win over the Hawks on Oct. 30. On Nov. 10, Hood finished with 20 points in a loss to the Bulls. On Nov. 23, he scored 25 points and five 5-of-7 three-pointers, in addition to grabbing four rebounds. Hood was traded to the Trail Blazers on Feb. 4. In 27 games, he averaged 9.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He reached double-figures 11 times and hit 45.2 percent of his field goals, as well as 34.5 percent of his three-point attempts. In a game against Charlotte on Mar. 3, Hood scored a season-high 27 points, 21 of which came in the fourth quarter. Hood appeared in all 16 of the Trail Blazers' postseason games throughout their run to the Western Conference Finals. He tied a playoff-career-high with 25 points against Denver in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
