For two seasons, Tremont Waters was the lead point guard for LSU. During the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, Waters started 61 of 66 games for the Tigers. In his freshman year, his 198 assists were an LSU freshman record, breaking the mark set by NBA star Ben Simmons. Waters' combination of play-making proficiency (6.0 assists per game) and scoring (15.9 points per contest) led to Freshman All-SEC accolades. Waters would produce, statistically, a sophomore season very similar to his freshman campaign with 15.3 points, 5.8 assists and an eye-popping 2.9 steals per game. The big difference was that Waters led LSU to a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers, entering the tourney as a No. 3 seed, defeated Yale and then Maryland to make to the Sweet 16. They would then lose to Michigan State. Waters would later be named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-SEC.
