New DraftKings Soccer Scoring Rules

DraftKings opened their Copa America and European Championships contests Wednesday and at the same time released new scoring and roster rules for their soccer games. After using 11-man rosters, the site is now back to an eight-man group, made up of one goalkeeper, two defenders, two midfielders, two forwards and one utility.

The reason behind the change is to make lineup construction easier, especially with the summer tournaments that only have two or three games per day.

Additionally, the value of a cross, which can still come from open play, a free kick or a corner, was reduced from one point to 0.75. Crosses are still the more prolific stat available, as some players can send in as many as 20 in a game, which means it will still be a vital number to focus on. However, it's nice to see the reduction, which will allow players who rely on tackles, interceptions and fouls drawn to have more value.

The salary cap of $50,000 was maintained, with player salaries correspondingly rising due to the reduced roster spots.
