Nail Gets Nailed

If you haven't heard the news yet, likely number one overall pick Nail Yakubov got laid out last night by a hit to the headfrom Islanders prospect Mike Halmo in a junior game. Watch the play here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXkI9lwjiOg

It was pretty clearly a cheap shot, by the current definition of such. Yakubov was vulnerable, reaching out to corral a wayward puck, and Halmo plowed into him full speed. Halmo even raised his arm at the last second to make sure Yakubov's face took the initial blow.

The culture of the game is slowly changing to try and eliminate head shots, but as far as I'm concerned the change can't come soon enough. And I doubt I'd get much argument today from fans hoping the draft lottery would deliver a franchise player their team could build around. Yes, I'm looking at you, Columbus.
