Kevin Kolb didn't help his case to be the Cardinals Week 1 starter with his performance in Thursday's final preseason game. Kolb's two interceptions led Ken Whisenhunt to say the QB battle was getting "murkier." Fortunately for Kolb, John Skelton hasn't been any better in camp, so Kolb might still be the slight favorite to land the job, although that doesn't mean people should expect anything big from him. As they say, the Cardinals might have no quarterbacks instead of two options.
Ryan Williams has yet to grab a hold on the Cardinals starting RB job, and hasn't created much separation between himself and incumbent Beanie Wells. Williams had 15 yards on three carries Thursday night, but has battled knee injuries through camp. Much like the Cardinals QB battle, the winner still probably won't put up stud numbers, especially considering the uncertainty about the Cardinals' O-Line.
Cedric Benson was impressive in his first action with the Packers on Thursday night, rushing for 38 yards on six carries. The newly signed Benson ran like he had something to prove, and could have a newfound chip on his shoulder after being largely ignored in free agency. The Packers certainly aren't deep at RB, especially with current injuries to James Starks and Brandon Saine. Benson has a great chance to make a surprise impact as the Packers starting tailback.
Antonio Gates won't play in the Chargers' final preseason game on Friday, but there are no injury concerns with the TE. In fact, the Chargers claim Gates is as healthy as ever, and the rest is more of a precautionary move to keep him that way. Gates is always an injury risk, but when healthy he is still a huge factor. It looks like Gates will at least open the season in great form.
Kendall Wright has a chance to catch a lot of passes for Jake Locker and Co. this season. The 20th overall pick in the 2012 draft has looked really good in preseason, and the Titans have question marks at receiver, especially with injury and suspension risks to Kenny Britt. Wright is a playmaker, and by all indications, it looks like Tennessee will look to utilize him immediately.
