NHL Playoff Observations -- Sunday's Game 2s

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • I don't always score goals. But when I do, I do it in the postseason. I'm the most interesting Hab in the world. I'm talking about you, Dale Weise. Take a bow, dude. Take a bow.
  • Braden Holtby cannot win games by himself. I know that's hard to believe, but it's true. Can you call Alexander Ovechkin and tell him that? Better yet -- troll him on Twitter. Now there's a novel concept.

  • Fifteen million. That's Ilya Kovalchuk's salary in the KHL, but it's in rubles. And any handy conversion chart will tell you that's worth less than $300,000 U.S. He'll be back. Greed is a remarkable motivator.
  • Seventy-one (71). That's the number of hits recorded in just the first two period of tonight's Sens-Habs game. Heck, even Erik Karlsson was throwing his weight around -- he had six hits. Then again, he was the one hitting the ice every time, but hey -- that still counts as a hit. Right?
  • Help -- I can't get up. Jonas Hiller spends far too much time on his knees. And he's in no hurry to get up when he's down there. It's going to kill the Flames.
  • Andrew Desjardins 1, Antoine Vermette 0. The former was acquired for a seventh round pick (and another fourth liner); the latter? Well, you know. Ouch.
  • Michael Ferland probably won't ever be a fantasy star, but he sure knows how to make an impact on the game. Bash and blue.
  • Josh Bailey is all-too-often overlooked on that Islanders' squad. He shouldn't be. Did you know he's on a six-game point streak?
  • Hey, Cody Franson -- that was a brain fart you experienced. And next time, go back to the bench with your tail between your legs instead of trying to blame the refs for not blowing the whistle. You screwed up. That's why you were a healthy scratch.
  • A jet engine taking off? That's about 100 db. Sam Bennett scoring his first NHL goal? 121 db. That kid is going to be a hero in Calgary.
