NHL Playoff Observations -- No-one kicked off the island

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • No Calder nom? No problem. Here's a screw you hat trick, NHL. And it was Filip Forsberg's first career hattie even.
  • I wonder if Luke Glendening was the type of kid who poked the proverbial bear just to get attention. 'Cuz that's what the dork did tonight, less than seven-and-a-half-minutes from a three-games-to-one stranglehold over the Bolts. Honestly, is there EVER a good time to poke a sleeping bear?

  • So, was that Denis Savard or Patrick Kane who executed a near-perfect spin, drew the defenders just like flies and backhanded a perfect setup to Kris Versteeg? Sometimes you need the replay to truly appreciate that kind of move. Wow.
  • Damn you, Toronto sports radio. This afternoon, I heard them analyzing an Islanders-Rangers second round. #IslesAreDoomed. Then again, it was a nice reprieve from all the whining about how the NHL should have rigged the Connor McDavid lottery draft in favor of the Maple Leafs. Apparently, the axis of the earth does go through Hogtown.
  • Hey, Big Ben -- cricket is played on grass, not ice. You'll know better than to swing your magic bat to clear airborne pucks around your own net.
  • Tyler Johnson's TMR (talent-to-mass ratio) is through the roof. The Wings spend so much time searching for Steven Stamkos that little TJ can have his way with them.
  • Keep calm -- it's Miller time. Ryan Miller, that is.
