NHL Playoff Observations -- Penguins Can't Fly ... Or Score

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • The invisible man isn't fiction any more -- he's fact. And his name is Evgeni Malkin. Five games, 11 shots and minus-1. That performance was unacceptable.
  • What's your favorite turnover? Apple? Cherry? Or maybe raspberry? I know the Sens' fave. It's called "the Markov" or "the Subban." Gobble. Them. Up.

  • Vladimir Tarasenko will compete for the Art Ross soon enough. He's a special player. Too bad we might only see him for six or seven games this postseason.
  • Great news, Oilers fans. Craig MacTavish can't screw up the Connor McDavid pick now. Yippee! But can you really trust the man who traded away Tyler Seguin to make the right moves? Swallow hard, fans. Swallow hard.
  • Bobby Ryan -- first-line sniper, third-line production. Those two goals snapped a 16-game goal drought and gave him three in his last 25 games. Yes, you read that right. He's an albatross with his $7.25 million annual cap hit ... until he's 34.
  • Carey Price will win the Vezina; he's been otherworldly this season. But is there a player more valuable to his team than Devin Dubnyk? The Wild are on the precipice of the second round, courtesy of Double-D. They were eight points out of the playoffs when he arrived in mid-January.
  • Marc-Andre Fleury deserves a medal. He's been doubted since the day he gifted the USA the World Junior Championships gold medal. And there were moments it was actually applicable. Not this time. The Penguins scored eight goals in five games. Eight freaking goals. Ouch. Blow it up.
