NHL Western Conference Finals: Hockey the Way it Should Be

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Can you win a series with just four defenders? The Hawks sure hope so. Better yet, can you win a series with David Rundblad in your lineup? Sorry, that was rhetorical, wasn't it ...
  • John Gibson, who? Frederick Andersen is hot, hot, hot. That sprawling stick save on Patrick Kane to stop a sure goal was pure effort.

  • Hawks/Ducks on Sunday was everything playoff hockey should be. Bolts/Rangers on Saturday? Not so much.
  • Brad Richards' feet may be slow, but it sure didn't look that way on the unassisted goal in the second period. Great stick to knock it down; even greater to thread the needle between Frederik Andersen's elbow and side. Sweet.
  • Damn, the Ducks are a great team. That first period penalty kill was otherworldly -- they were the ones who dominated the play. That works in beer league, but not usually in the NHL.
  • That was Kyle Palmieri's first playoff goal? Seriously? Nate Thompson has two!
  • Play of the day? Claude Giroux's behind-the-back pass to Tyler Seguin to help Canada win gold at the IIHF World Hockey Championship will be play-of-the-year worthy. Check YouTube for it. Someone will have it up there in the next couple days.
  • Jakob Silfverberg delivered 13 goals and 39 total points in 81 regular-season games. He has 13 points, including four goals, in just 10 postseason games. #breakout ?
