Stanley Cup Final: No More Rope-A-Dope

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Hey, Jon Cooper -- rope-a-dope only worked for Muhammad Ali. It clearly DOES NOT work for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Just saying.
  • How is it that a goalie who is 6-7 can't see shots and therefore doesn't have a hope in Hades of stopping them? STOP SCREENING Big Ben, boys. Let the man do his job.

  • Back to the rope-a-dope. The Bolts had the Hawks completely frustrated for 53 minutes. I actually thought they had it in the bag, especially after frustrating Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews so dang much. Not so much.
  • Does anyone know what Kris Versteeg was thinking when he clipped Ben Bishop and face-planted against the goal post? Maybe he needed some kind of cut or scar to prove he actually played in the postseason and that was the only thing he could think of doing to get it.
  • Alex Killorn is the first Harvard grad to pot a goal in the Cup Final. Goal aside, he's the kind of guy that 29 other teams would die to have. He supports breakouts. He never leaves the zone early. He backchecks. He assumes any role you want. He's smart. And skilled. Cripes, he's up the average IQ on most teams by a significant amount.
  • The Hawks -- and especially their captain -- were frustrated by the Bolts' exceptional approach to positional hockey. They haven't faced a team with that much firepower, speed and discipline yet this postseason. Then again, the Bolts haven't faced a team with no weak spots and dynasty written all over it. I hope this goes at least six games; I fear it may not even get back to Tampa Bay.
  • Teuvo Tervainen has five points in his last four games. How is it that bad teams stay bad despite great options at the draft table? And great teams pan for gold and almost always sift out a winner? This kid is fantastic.
