Training Camp Notes: Will Alshon Jeffery Be Elite?

-Alshon Jeffery returned to the practice field on Wednesday after being sidelined during the last two practices due to an injury to the AC joint in his right shoulder. The Bears' head coach John Fox called the injury "minor" on Sunday, and today's return would suggest that the team was simply being cautious with their number-one wide receiver. With the departure of Brandon Marshall earlier this offseason, Jeffery is a sure bet to become the top option and will likely lead the team in targets within offensive coordinator Adam Gase's system. The 25-year old receiver had a great season in 2014 when he hauled in 85 passes for 1,133 yards and 10 touchdowns. If Jeffery can avoid injury during the regular season, he'll have a great chance to put up similar numbers and could end up being one of the best fantasy receivers in the game.

-Carson Palmer also returned to practice on Wednesday after sitting out on Tuesday in an attempt to lighten his workload and keep him healthy throughout camp. Palmer played just six games in 2014 after battling an early shoulder injury and eventually tearing his ACL in Week 10.The Cardinals went 6-0 in those games and Palmer averaged 37.3 pass attempts per game. The Cardinals' coaching staff insists that the 35-year old quarterback is healthy and looking good, but they're going to sit him out at least one practice per week to make sure it stays that way. Arizona should have a solid core at the wide receiver position and with the recent addition of tight end Jermaine Gresham, Palmer will have a plethora of options in the passing game.

-Darren McFadden is still a day or two away from returning to practice according to head coach Jason Garrett. The 27-year old running back has been nursing a recent hamstring injury which seems to be a recurring issue in recent years. There have been a lot of discussions over the last few months regarding who the Cowboys' starting running back will be in Week 1. Some people believe that McFadden will be the guy due to his experience in the league and others believe that Joseph Randle will get the nod simply because McFadden can never stay healthy. Randle averaged 6.7 YPC with limited touches last season and he likely has the slight edge at the moment. The guy who gets the job will have an opportunity to become a fantasy monster while running behind arguably the best offensive line in the league.

-LeSean McCoy didn't participate in practice on Wednesday due to a toe injury, but head coach Rex Ryan insists that it's very minor and that he expects McCoy to play in the team's scrimmage on Saturday. The 27-year old running back is in his first year with the Bills after rushing for 1,319 yards and five touchdowns in Philadelphia a season ago. It's impossible to know exactly how a player will adapt to new coaches and new teammates, but the one thing that's certain is that McCoy will see a heavy workload in 2015. Rex Ryan loves to run the ball and play defense in hopes to wear his opponents down, and he's never had a back quite like McCoy to rely on.

-Tevin Coleman missed practice on Wednesday with a strained hamstring and it's likely that he'll be out for at least a few more days. Coach Dan Quinn mentioned that he hopes to have Coleman back soon, but was unable to give any sort of timetable for a return. The Falcons drafted Coleman in the third-round of this year's draft out of Indiana and he's expected to be in a competitive battle with second-year back Devonta Freeman for the starting role. The 22-year old speedster should see significant time whether he wins the job or not, and he's certainly a guy you'll want to keep on your radar.
