2021 Tournament PreviewThe Gators persevered to make the NCAA Tournament after losing SEC Preseason Player of the Year Keyontae Johnson to a heart condition after just six games. The loss of Johnson, who led the team last season with 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, certainly impacted the rebounding, as Florida ranks 301st in defensive rebounding rate. The 6-11 Colin Castleton (12.0 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and 6-7 Anthony Duruji (5.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg) are solid on the inside, but depth is an issue, especially if 6-10 sophomore Omar Payne (3.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg) is suspended after being ejected from Florida's SEC quarterfinal loss for throwing two elbows in the direction of Tennessee player John Fulkerson. Offensively, the Gators are top 85 in the nation in effective field-goal percentage, perimeter shooting, two-point shooting percentage and free-throw percentage. Sophomore Tre Mann (16.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.4 apg) is the unquestioned leader absent Johnson, while junior Noah Locke (10.4 ppg) provides a perimeter boost with 54 3-pointers on 40.6 percent shooting. However, the inconsistent Gators have not won more than four games in a row this season, making a deep run unlikely.
