Rourke announced Saturday via his personal Twitter account that he will leave the Lions to sign with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Rourke will put his future in the CFL on hold for the time being in order to pursue a career in the NFL. The 24-year-old signal-caller worked out with 12 NFL teams during December and January before choosing to join up with the Jaguars, according to Justin Dunk of 3DownNation. Rourke will also unite with Jacksonville offensive quality control coach Henry Burris, a former CFL quarterback himself who was set to work the BC Lions as a consultant before instead taking a job with the Jaguars. Rourke started nine games this past season before undergoing surgery in August for a Lisfranc sprain in his foot, and he returned to play the first quarter of the regular-season finale against Winnipeg. The 6-foot-2 passer thus finished with a 78.7 completion percentage for 3,349 yards and 25 touchdowns to 10 interceptions to go along with 39 carries for 304 yards and seven rushing scores. Rourke was also awarded the league's Most Outstanding Canadian award, and he'll now look to work his way up as a backup with Jacksonville. If he gets cut by Jacksonville in training camp next fall, Rourke could pursue a return to the CFL.
