CFB Waiver Wire: Players to Pick Up Week 8

This article is part of our CFB Waiver Wire series.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC

McKenzie Milton, QB, UCF: Milton received the nod in a 26-25 loss to Temple on Saturday and wasn't all that bad with three total touchdowns – two passing and one rushing. The freshman from Hawaii gets a Connecticut team this week that is giving up 285.9 passing yards per game which is 10th worst in the nation.

Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis: Henderson was impressive on a simple screen pass from quarterback Riley Ferguson when he took it 46 yards to the house in a win over Tulane on Saturday. Henderson also added a rushing touchdown to give him five scores on the season. He'll likely split carries with Doroland Dorceus, however, but Henderson has upside on a good Memphis squad.

ACC

David Njoku, TE, Miami: The Hurricanes have a tough road matchup against Virginia Tech on Thursday, but it may be Njoku who will step in as Brad Kaaya's security blanket with top target Stacy Coley dealing with a knee injury. Njoku had a season-high four catches for 82 yards in the loss to North Carolina on Saturday.

Bug Howard, WR, North Carolina: The Tar Heels' explosive offense gets to play a Virginia defense which just gave up 45 points in a loss to Pittsburgh. Howard has improved this season, already with 29 catches to match last year's output, including 10 for 156 yards versus Miami on Saturday. Look for North Carolina to put up over 50 points and for Howard to

BIG 12

Joe Mixon and Mark Andrews, RB/TE, Oklahoma:Both of these guys may be owned in the majority of leagues, but in case they are not, go ahead and pick them up prior to the Sooners' matchup with Texas Tech. Mixon was sensational Saturday while filling in for an injured Samaje Perine and even threw a touchdown pass. Andrews has had a series of slow games, so he may be out there on the waiver wire. Furthermore, Texas Tech won't have anyone to guard the big tight end, which means he should have a breakout game.

Justin Crawford, RB, West Virginia: Despite having two touchdowns, Crawford didn't have as big a game as everyone thought he would against Texas Tech with only 47 total yards. The reason he wasn't able to get more than eight touches is because West Virginia blew the Red Raiders out of the water and decided to not play Crawford as much in the second half. Expect the starting running back to be a bigger focal point against TCU on Saturday.

BIG TEN

Jazz Peavy, WR, Wisconsin: In a near upset of the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Peavy was the top receiving option with six targets for 76 yards and a touchdown. He was also a threat in the running department with six carries for 70 yards. The Badgers love to use the jet sweep formation and Peavy has the speed to take advantage by running down the sidelines. With a game against Iowa looming, look for Head Coach Paul Chryst to keep handing the ball off to Peavy in addition to targeting him in the air.

Terrell Newby, RB, Nebraska: Newby is the hot right now after racking up two consecutive 100-yard games for the Cornhuskers. He's officially beat out Devine Ozigbo for the starting job and should absolutely eat up a Purdue defense that just gave up 365 rushing yards and fired their head coach following a 49-35 loss to Iowa on Saturday.

CONFERENCE USA

Trent Taylor, WR, Louisiana Tech: Tech's offense was insane Saturday as quarterback Ryan Higgins threw for 484 yards and five touchdowns which all went to Carlos Henderson. Meanwhile, Taylor had nine catches for 126 yards. The distribution of touchdowns in an air-raid offense can be fluky, so go with Taylor this week against FIU. Taylor has 75 receptions and is knocking on the door of a 1,000 yard season through seven games. He should be owned in all leagues, not just C-USA leagues.

Jeremy Cox, RB, Old Dominion: Cox filled in as the primary running back while Ray Lawry was dealing with a hamstring injury and had 162 yards and two touchdowns versus Massachusetts. With Old Dominion coming off a bye to play a bad Western Kentucky defense, there should be enough fantasy production to please Lawry and Cox owners this week.

MAC

Anthony Maddie, QB, Northern Illinois: Even though the Huskies have won only one of Maddie's four starts, he's been relatively successful from a fantasy perspective with nine total touchdowns and two 100-yard rushing games. Maddie has an awesome matchup this week against a Buffalo team that has trouble stopping their opponents.

Corey Willis, WR, Central Michigan: Willis has been the face of consistency lately with at least six catches in five straight games to go along with six touchdowns over that span. On the season, he has 36 grabs for 566 yards and eight touchdowns. Willis should be good for a score or two against Toledo this week.

MOUNTAIN WEST

Tyrone Owens, RB, New Mexico: With Teriyon Gibson dealing with a hamstring injury and having his handoffs capped in the 45-40 win over Air Force on Saturday, Owens has filled in with success. Owens is averaging 6.5 yards per carry and has a touchdown in each of his last three games. With Louisiana Monroe on the schedule this week, Owens shouldn't have much issue making it four straight games with a touchdown.

Dru Brown, QB, Hawaii: In each of the Warriors' last three games, Brown has thrown for at least 200 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. He's also racked up 117 yards and a touchdown on the ground. With Air Force's suspect defense this week, Brown could be a sneaky play for fantasy owners looking for a fill-in at quarterback.

PAC-12

Phillip Lindsay, RB, Colorado: Lindsay had a breakout game against Arizona State with 219 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries on Saturday. The junior now has 614 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground to go along with 21 catches for 216 yards and another score. Even with the Buffs going up against Stanford this week, Lindsay needs to be snatched off the wire.

Darreus Rogers, WR, USC: The Trojans are off this week, so this recommendation has more to do with looking ahead to next week when USC plays Cal. Steven Mitchell tore his ACL in the win over Arizona and Rogers should be the player which slots in as the number two receiver behind Juju Smith-Schuster, who has been dealing with a back injury of his own. Quarterback Sam Darnold has looked great in three straight wins, so make sure to stash Rogers.

SEC

Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU: Dupre finally had the game that fantasy owners were waiting for with three catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns. With the changes in the coaching staff and a soft Ole Miss defense on the docket, maybe Dupre can finally break out with all the attention given to the LSU running backs. D.J. Chark is also recommended if Dupre is not available.

Keith Mixon, WR, Mississippi State: In the Bulldogs' last two games against Auburn and BYU, Mixon has pulled in six catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns. If you're looking for a sneaky play this week, go with the freshman when the Bulldogs travel to play Kentucky.

SUN BELT

Matt Linehan, QB, Idaho: Linehan was fanastic against New Mexico State, throwing for 476 yards and four touchdowns with just one interception while making 29-of-36 passes. The experienced junior also had a rushing touchdown in the 55-23 win. I'm not saying he'll duplicate the performance against Appalachian State, but he will likely throw with the same kind of volume that gives fantasy owners a chance Saturday.

Elijah McGuire, RB, Louisiana Lafayette: For anyone that bailed on McGuire due to the senior back being held under 100 yards in each of his last three games, it's time to jump back in this week when the Ragin' Cajuns play Texas State. When these two teams met up last year, McGuire ran for a season-high 170 yards.
