Move to San Jose State official
January 24, 2020
San Jose State announced Friday that Starkel has joined the program as a graduate transfer from Arkansas.
ANALYSIS
Starkel intimated days earlier via his personal Twitter account that he would continue his playing career on the West Coast, and the move is now official with the school confirming as much. A highly regarded recruit from the 2016 cycle, Starkel opened his career at Texas A&M, appearing in 11 games for the Aggies before leaving the program when it became clear Kellen Mond was the team's future at quarterback. Starkel stayed within the SEC and moved on to Arkansas, but failed to win the starting job out of camp last fall. He ultimately did get an opportunity to replace the struggling Ben Hicks before getting benched by season's end, finishing the campaign with a 7:10 TD:INT over eight games (five starts) with the Razorbacks. He'll look to end his career on a high note at San Jose State, where he'll be eligible to compete right away and should contend for the starting job in spring and fall camp with Josh Love having exhausted his eligibility.
