Minnesota relied on the running game more than any other Power 5 offense last season. As a result, Williams was one of three Minnesota running backs to eclipse the century mark for single-game rushing yards in the team’s run-dominant offensive scheme last season. The Golden Gophers stuck to the running game through thick and thin and cycled through a revolving class of primary ball carriers due to multiple injuries at the position. Williams was one of three Minnesota running backs to suffer a season-ending injury, which limited the senior rusher’s overall production during the 2021 season. The return of running backs Mohamed Ibrahim and Trey Potts likely ensures Williams will never see primary rushing duties during the 2022 campaign, but Williams should serve a consistent backup role alongside Potts in Minnesota’s run-dominant offensive scheme.
