Parts ways with Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins confirmed prior to the start of the Yellow Jackets' spring practices that Wells is no longer with the football program, Ken Sugiura of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Wells was Georgia Tech's primary placekicker as a true freshman in 2018, converting all nine of his field-goal attempts and all 39 of his extra-point tries. As a sophomore, he fell behind Brenton King on the depth chart, though he still chipped in six extra points (on seven attempts) and missed his lone field-goal attempt while also kicking off 14 times. Wells hasn't placed his name in the transfer portal, so he may just be electing to forgo his final two years of eligibility rather than attempting to transfer elsewhere. King also left the team prior to spring practice, so Georgia Tech will be forced to break in a new kicker in 2020.
