Weekly Rankings: Week 16 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update complete

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Should I start Patrick Mahomes or Eli Manning?"

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights, roughly around 10:00 pm ET. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning.

I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.

Quarterbacks

1.Lamar Jackson BAL at CLE
2.Deshaun Watson HOU at TB

Quarterbacks

1.Lamar Jackson BAL at CLE
2.Deshaun Watson HOU at TB
3.*Drew Brees NO at TEN
Note: Ludicrously efficient against the Colts.
4.*Russell Wilson SEA vs. ARI
Note: Bounced back against the Panthers - 11.0 YPA, two touchdowns, zero interceptions.
5.Patrick Mahomes KC at CHI
6.Matt Ryan ATL vs. JAX
7.Kyler Murray ARZ at SEA
8.*Jameis Winston TB vs. HOU
Note: (Thumb) Limited participant in Tuesday's practice, though the thumb injury clearly didn't hold him back last week against Detroit. Losing two more WR's might do the trick this week, however. Listed as questionable, but had a full practice Thursday after being restricted from throwing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
9.*Dak Prescott DAL at PHI
Note: Playing through a 'little' injury to his right index finger. Shoulder injury - hasn't thrown in practice yet; Friday's practice will officially define his status, though he's expected to play. ***Another limited practice Friday, lobbing light throws, but he's expected to be cleared from the injury list before Sunday's game. Did well in a throwing session on Saturday.***
10.*Ryan Tannehill TEN vs. NO
Note: ***Could be hurt by the expected absence of Derrick Henry.***
11.Carson Wentz PHI vs. DAL
12.*Jimmy Garoppolo SF vs. LAR
Note: Struggled in what was perceived to be a plus matchup, but the Falcons' pass rush wreaked havoc against him and the Niners.
13.*Aaron Rodgers GB at MIN
Note: Struggled late after connecting early with Davante Adams.
14.*Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA vs. CIN
Note: ***Some weather concerns.***
15.Kirk Cousins MIN vs. GB
16.Josh Allen BUF at NE
17.*Philip Rivers LAC vs. OAK
Note: Coming off a terrible game against the Vikings - his INT and later fumble in the second quarter turned the game around.
18.Mitchell Trubisky CHI vs. KC
19.*Jared Goff LA at SF
Note: Added to the injury list with a bruised thumb, but then removed from the list on Thursday - took every snap at practice.
20.Baker Mayfield CLE vs. BAL
21.Derek Carr OAK at LAC
22.Tom Brady NE vs. BUF
23.*Jacoby Brissett IND vs. CAR
Note: Awful game against the Saints, and he hasn't been the same since coming back from the knee injury.
24.*Andy Dalton CIN at MIA
Note: Sometimes it's difficult to see if it's Dalton or Ryan Finley in there. ***Small downgrade due to the windy conditions in Miami.***
25.*Daniel Jones NYG at WAS
Note: (Ankle) The Giants are proceeding with the expectation that Jones will be able to return this week. Full practice Thursday - an official announcement hasn't yet been made, but he's still expected to start. ***Named the starter on Friday.***
26.Drew Lock DEN vs. DET
27.*Gardner Minshew JAC at ATL
Note: On the plus side, he led another comeback win. On the down side, his numbers were just mediocre - 201 yards on 29 attempts, and the Jaguars needed a comeback against a weak Raiders secondary to begin with. (Shoulder) Limited on Wednesday and Thursday. Full practice Friday, cleared from the injury list.
28.*Will Grier CAR at IND
Note: Officially named the starter.
29.Sam Darnold NYJ vs. PIT
30.*Dwayne Haskins WAS vs. NYG
Note: Looking more competent as the season progresses.
31.*David Blough DET at DEN
Note: Struggled despite a pretty good matchup against the Bucs, albeit without Marvin Jones. Officially named the starter.
32.*Devlin Hodges PIT at NYJ
Note: Hodges will remain the starter against the Jets despite Sunday night's four-INT debacle.
33.*Eli Manning NYG at WAS
Note: Likely retreating back to the bench in favor of Daniel Jones this week.
34.*Kyle Allen CAR at IND
Note: Likely to be benched in favor of Will Grier. Officially benched in favor of Grier.
35.*Matthew Stafford DET at DEN
Note: Finally placed on IR on Tuesday.

Running Backs

1.Christian McCaffrey CAR at IND
2.Chris Carson SEA vs. ARI
3.*Saquon Barkley NYG at WAS
Note: Coming off his best game of the season.
4.Ezekiel Elliott DAL at PHI
5.*Joe Mixon CIN at MIA
Note: Looked fantastic against the Pats - 136 yards on 25 carries, plus three catches for 20 yards. Added to the injury report Thursday after a limited practice due to a calf injury. ***Full practice Friday, good to play this week. Also battling a stomach bug, but is active.***
6.*Aaron Jones GB at MIN
Note: I don't understand why the Packers don't throw to Jones more often, when he was so good in the passing game earlier this year.
7.*Todd Gurley LA at SF
Note: Not very efficient, but still managed to get two touchdowns.
8.Mark Ingram BAL at CLE
9.Leonard Fournette JAC at ATL
10.*Alvin Kamara NO at TEN
Note: Kamara's 13.9 fantasy points in PPR leagues has to be a disappointment given that the Saints were marching up and down the field against the Colts.
11.*Nick Chubb CLE vs. BAL
Note: Averaged 7.5 yards per carry and had three catches for 21 yards, but it could/should have been even better if the Browns would have used him late in the game.
12.*Miles Sanders PHI vs. DAL
Note: Monster game against the Redskins - even if Jordan Howard returns, he's earned a greater role in the offense.
13.*Marlon Mack IND vs. CAR
Note: In theory this should be a great matchup, but Monday's debacle is leaving me a little gun-shy.
14.*Mike Boone MIN vs. GB
Note: Looks to be the main backup to Dalvin Cook with Mattison out; right now Mike Zimmer seems optimistic that Cook will play. Getting the first-team reps at RB in practice. The news on Cook has worsened, heightening the likelihood that Boone will start. ***Cook is out, and Mattison is a game-time decision.***
15.Raheem Mostert SF vs. LAR
16.Austin Ekeler LAC vs. OAK
17.Phillip Lindsay DEN vs. DET
18.*Melvin Gordon LAC vs. OAK
Note: Two bad fumbles led to two Minnesota scores, and a subsequent benching for a while last week.
19.*James Conner PIT at NYJ
Note: Only eight carries, but the Steelers simply ran very few plays. He's the main back again.
20.David Montgomery CHI vs. KC
21.Le'Veon Bell NYJ vs. PIT
22.Kenyan Drake ARZ at SEA
23.*DeAndre Washington OAK at LAC
Note: Bumped up with Josh Jacobs ruled out.
24.*Devin Singletary BUF at NE
Note: Two fumbles Sunday night led to Frank Gore getting 10 carries (albeit for only 15 yards).
25.*Devonta Freeman ATL vs. JAX
Note: Lost a goal line carry to Qadree Ollison.
26.*Adrian Peterson WAS vs. NYG
Note: ***(Toe) Cleared from the injury report on Friday.***
27.Ronald Jones TB vs. HOU
28.*Dion Lewis TEN vs. NO
Note: (Ankle) Limited at Thursday's practice. ***Full practice Friday, listed as questionable. LIKELY STARTING, HENRY UNLIKELY TO PLAY.***
29.James White NE vs. BUF
30.*Kareem Hunt CLE vs. BAL
Note: Had a whopping eight catches for 62 yards, the product of a game flow that saw the Browns trailing the entire game.
31.*Duke Johnson HOU at TB
Note: ***Carlos Hyde is listed as questionable for Saturday, which could mean more work for The Duke.***
32.Patrick Laird MIA vs. CIN
33.*Carlos Hyde HOU at TB
Note: Tending to an ankle injury - limited in Tuesday's practice. Still limited on Thursday, listed as questionable.
34.Sony Michel NE vs. BUF
35.*Kerryon Johnson DET at DEN
Note: (Knee) On track to be activated from the Lions' IR on Saturday. The Lions already have an open roster spot for him. ***Officially activated, could get 'significant' carries in his first week back.***
36.*Damien Williams KC at CHI
Note: (Rib/Illness) Scratched again last week. Back-to-back limited practices to begin the week. It doesn't help that the Chiefs play on Sunday night. *** Full practice Friday, and cleared to play Sunday.***
37.Boston Scott PHI vs. DAL
38.*Matt Breida SF vs. LAR
Note: Fumbled twice last week, losing one.
39.Latavius Murray NO at TEN
40.Peyton Barber TB vs. HOU
41.*Gus Edwards BAL at CLE
Note: I could see him breaking one late if the Ravens build a big lead.
42.Tarik Cohen CHI vs. KC
43.Jamaal Williams GB at MIN
44.Jalen Richard OAK at LAC
45.*LeSean McCoy KC at CHI
Note: ***Likely active but diminished if Damien Williams returns, as seems likely.***
46.Ty Montgomery NYJ vs. PIT
47.Chris Thompson WAS vs. NYG
48.Tony Pollard DAL at PHI
49.Royce Freeman DEN vs. DET
50.*Tevin Coleman SF vs. LAR
Note: Managed only four carries, though he netted 40 yards on those carries.

52.*David Johnson ARZ at SEA
Note: Netted only three carries and 13 snaps while Kenyan Drake ran wild.
53.Khari Blasingame TEN vs. NO
54.*J.D. McKissic DET at DEN
Note: Left with a shoulder stinger in the third quarter last week. ***Cleared from the injury report.***
55.C.J. Prosise SEA vs. ARI

Note: ***Likely diminished role now that Damien Williams has been cleared to play.***
57.Malcolm Brown LA at SF
58.Nyheim Hines IND vs. CAR
59.*Myles Gaskin MIA vs. CIN
Note: Ran better than Patrick Laird in the loss to the Giants.
60.*Benny Snell Jr. PIT at NYJ
Note: Non-factor now that James Conner is back.
61.Frank Gore BUF at NE
62.Qadree Ollison ATL vs. JAX
63.Brian Hill ATL vs. JAX
64.Ameer Abdullah MIN vs. GB
65.Jordan Wilkins IND vs. CAR
66.Wes Hills DET at DEN
67.*Ty Johnson DET at DEN
Note: Once again, the Lions turned to a back on the practice squad (Wes Hills) ahead of Johnson.
68.Giovani Bernard CIN at MIA
69.*Alexander Mattison MIN vs. GB
Note: (Ankle) Sitting out practice Thursday and Friday to begin the Vikings' practice week. ***Viewed as a game-time decision. I don't expect him to play, and this ranking reflects that.***
70.*Derrick Henry TEN vs. NO
Note: Last week was the first time since Week 8 that Henry failed to score - and he came a foot away from doing so against the Texans. Limited practice Wednesday, no practice Thursday. ***Full practice Friday, no injury designation. DOWNGRADED TO QUESTIONABLE ON SATURDAY, AND NOW UNLIKELY TO PLAY.***
71.*Bilal Powell NYJ vs. PIT
Note: (Ankle) ***Limited practices all week, listed as questionable.***
72.*Dalvin Cook MIN vs. GB
Note: (Shoulder) 'Felt good' Monday and coach Mike Zimmer was optimistic about his status Monday. We'll see how that translates during the week. Didn't practice Thursday, and an Adam Schefter report on ESPN suggests that he could sit out both Week 16 and 17 to get fully healthy for the playoffs. Also sat out Friday's practice.
73.*Bo Scarbrough DET at DEN
Note: (Ribs) It's still possible that Kerryon Johnson (knee) could return this week. ***Limited all week, listed as questionable.***
74.*Jordan Howard PHI vs. DAL
Note: (Shoulder) 'Status quo' holds for Howard. ***Still not cleared for contact as of Friday, still listed as 'questionable' but unlikely to play.***
75.*Josh Jacobs OAK at LAC
