Weekly Rankings: Week 4 Value Meter

Weekly Rankings: Week 4 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update complete

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Player X vs. Player Y?" without any other mitigating factors. Of course, I welcome debate - if you think I'm wrong, let me know. But please check out the rankings first before asking your start/sit question. This truly reflects my opinion in my leagues.

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff

I will post at the top of the article in bold font when ranking updates are in progress and when they're complete.

I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.

Quarterbacks

1.Josh Allen BUF vs. HOU
2.Kyler Murray ARZ at LAR
3.Patrick Mahomes KC at PHI
4.Russell Wilson SEA at SF
5.*Lamar Jackson BAL at DEN
Note: Jackson's final line should have been much better, but for the butterfingers of Marquise Brown. Jackson has missed practices on Wednesday and Thursday with back soreness. ***Returned to a full practice Friday and should play.***
6.*Justin Herbert LAC vs. LV
Note: Herbert had his throwing hand wrapped and iced following Sunday's win over the Chiefs. ***Not on the final injury report.***
7.*Jalen Hurts PHI vs. KC
Note: If you didn't watch the game and only looked at the boxscore, you might think that Hurts played well, but he was very ineffective until the fourth quarter.
8.Matthew Stafford LA vs. ARI
9.*Dak Prescott DAL vs. CAR
Note: Prescott isn't as mobile yet as he was before last year's ankle injury, so you're not getting the boost in rushing yards that you might have expected.
10.Tom Brady TB at NE
11.Aaron Rodgers GB vs. PIT
12.Derek Carr LV at LAC
13.Kirk Cousins MIN vs. CLE
14.Joe Burrow CIN vs. JAX
15.Taylor Heinicke WAS at ATL
16.*Ryan Tannehill TEN at NYJ
Note: Tannehill will probably be without A.J. Brown (hamstring) this week against the Jets.
17.Matt Ryan ATL vs. WAS
18.Baker Mayfield CLE at MIN
19.Jimmy Garoppolo SF vs. SEA
20.*Ben Roethlisberger PIT at GB
Note: Roethlisberger threw for over 300 yards against the Bengals, but needed a whopping 58 tries to do so, and was picked twice while also taking a few sacks. He might be down two starting wide receivers this week, too. Roethlisberger was held out of Wednesday's practice, citing the same pectoral injury that bothered him last week. But he returned to practice Thursday.
21.Sam Darnold CAR at DAL
22.*Trevor Lawrence JAC at CIN
Note: Lawrence continues to struggle along with all the rookie quarterbacks. His one TD to DJ Chark was a laser, but he threw two more interceptions, one of which was a bad throw on an ill-conceived flea flicker that led to a pick-six.
23.Teddy Bridgewater DEN vs. BAL
24.Jared Goff DET at CHI
25.*Justin Fields CHI vs. DET
Note: Fields isn't guaranteed to start in Week 4 after the disaster in Cleveland. Even if Andy Dalton (knee) can't go, the Bears might instead go with Nick Foles. Fields is dealing with a sore right thumb, but he's had two full practices this week and Dalton has had two limited practices. ***Fields will start again this week, with Andy Dalton downgraded to doubtful.***
26.Daniel Jones NYG at NO
27.Mac Jones NE vs. TB
28.*Zach Wilson NYJ vs. TEN
Note: Wilson really struggled again last week against a tough opponent - that's been part of the problem for Wilson, is that he's faced the Panthers, Pats and Broncos.
29.Jameis Winston NO vs. NYG
30.*Davis Mills HOU at BUF
Note: The Texans plan to 'open up the offense' for Mills this week. For what it's worth, he only had three days to prepare for his first start last week, and 10 days for this game.
31.*Carson Wentz IND at MIA
Note: Wentz really looked like he was playing with two bad ankles in the loss to the Titans. That he played at all illustrated how little confidence the Colts had in his backups. Wentz has had limited practices so far this week. If Wentz is forced out this week, Brett Hundley will be the backup. ***Wentz was limited all week, and is listed as questionable, but he's expected to play.***
32.*Jacoby Brissett MIA vs. IND
Note: Brissett managed only 215 passing yards despite throwing it 49 times. ***Tua Tagovailoa is expected back in Week 6.***
33.Taysom Hill NO vs. NYG
34.Trey Lance SF vs. SEA
35.*Nick Foles CHI vs. DET
Note: There's a chance that Foles could start this week, if Andy Dalton (knee) can't go. ***Fields will start, Dalton is doubtful.***
36.*Andy Dalton CHI vs. DET
Note: Dalton (knee) is still considered week-to-week. Dalton has practiced in a limited capacity this week. Coach Matt Nagy insists that Dalton will be the starter when he's healthy again, so this is an uncertain call this week. ***Downgraded to doubtful, Fields will start.***

Running Backs

1.Derrick Henry TEN at NYJ
2.Austin Ekeler LAC vs. LV
3.Alvin Kamara NO vs. NYG
4.Joe Mixon CIN vs. JAX
5.*Najee Harris PIT at GB
Note: Really benefited from the game script and the Steelers' Captain Checkdown offense last week.
6.*Aaron Jones GB vs. PIT
Note: Jones has had his practice reps capped the first two days of practice with an ankle injury. ***Cleared from the injured list and is expected to play.***
7.Nick Chubb CLE at MIN
8.*Saquon Barkley NYG at NO
Note: Barkley (knee) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday. ***Barkley could be busier this week, with both Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton out.***
9.Ezekiel Elliott DAL vs. CAR
10.*James Robinson JAC at CIN
Note: Robinson gets a bump up with the Jaguars deactivating Carlos Hyde for Thursday night.
11.Chris Carson SEA at SF
12.*D'Andre Swift DET at CHI
Note: Swift (groin) was limited in practice both Wednesday and Thursday - from what I can tell, this is his standard for now. ***Swift has his usual questionable designation going into Sunday.***
13.Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC at PHI
14.*Dalvin Cook MIN vs. CLE
Note: (Ankle) Cooke practiced in limited capacity both Wednesday and Thursday. ***Expected to play this week, perhaps will cap his reps.***
15.*Jonathan Taylor IND at MIA
Note: Taylor was a limited participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday due to a sore knee. ***Taylor was limited all week, and is listed as questionable.***
16.*Miles Sanders PHI vs. KC
Note: Eagles running backs had three total carries Monday night, and only two by Sanders.
17.David Montgomery CHI vs. DET
18.*Chuba Hubbard CAR at DAL
Note: Hubbard will take over as the lead back while Christian McCaffrey is out, but he could continue to lose goal line carries to Royce Freeman. Confirmed as the starter.
19.*Antonio Gibson WAS at ATL
Note: Gibson was a non-participant for Thursday's practice after not being on the injured list at all Wednesday. ***Gibson returned to position drills Friday and is expected to play, despite being listed as questionable due to his shin injury.***
20.Kareem Hunt CLE at MIN
21.*Javonte Williams DEN vs. BAL
Note: I liked Williams's usage, but he struggled in the red zone, including losing a fumble on a goal line carry.
22.*Melvin Gordon DEN vs. BAL
Note: Gordon has been limited Wednesday and Thursday with ribs and lower leg issues. ***Gordon put in three limited practices this week but is expected to play.***
23.Mike Davis ATL vs. WAS
24.*Darrell Henderson LA vs. ARI
Note: Henderson is 'making progress' from his rib cartilage injury and the Rams are hopeful he can play this week. Henderson was a limited practice participant Wednesday. Coach Sean McVay that he anticipates that Henderson will play this week. ***Henderson is listed as questionable but expected to play after putting in a full practice Friday.***
25.Chase Edmonds ARZ at LAR
26.*Tony Pollard DAL vs. CAR
Note: Pollard was absent from Thursday's practice for personal reasons.
27.Myles Gaskin MIA vs. IND
28.Trey Sermon SF vs. SEA
29.*Alexander Mattison MIN vs. CLE
Note: Dalvin Cook has practiced in limited capacity this week, so I'm going to assume that Cook will play, but that Mattison will get more work than usual.
30.James Conner ARZ at LAR
31.Cordarrelle Patterson ATL vs. WAS
32.Damien Harris NE vs. TB
33.Sony Michel LA vs. ARI
34.J.D. McKissic WAS at ATL
35.*Peyton Barber LV at LAC
Note: Now seems to be the leading guy while Josh Jacobs is out. ***Jacobs is a game-time decision, so Barber could be in line for a decent workload again Monday night.***
36.Leonard Fournette TB at NE
37.*Ty'Son Williams BAL at DEN
Note: Williams strangely got very little use against the Lions in what was a plus matchup. ***Williams's picture is clouded after the Ravens activated Lev Bell. Good sized downgrade here, with the possibility that he's a healthy scratch.***
38.Zack Moss BUF vs. HOU
39.Jamaal Williams DET at CHI
40.Latavius Murray BAL at DEN
41.Devin Singletary BUF vs. HOU
42.Michael Carter NYJ vs. TEN

46.Mark Ingram HOU at BUF
47.Malcolm Brown MIA vs. IND
48.Ty Johnson NYJ vs. TEN

51.Royce Freeman CAR at DAL
52.Larry Rountree LAC vs. LV
53.Jeremy McNichols TEN at NYJ
54.Tony Jones NO vs. NYG
55.*Ronald Jones TB at NE
Note: Barring an injury to Leonard Fournette, and maybe even with one, I'm out of the Ronald Jones business. Only 12 snaps last week.
56.Justin Jackson LAC vs. LV
57.Damien Williams CHI vs. DET
58.Demetric Felton CLE at MIN
59.Samaje Perine CIN vs. JAX

Note: (Illness) Not on the injury report to begin the week.

69.Jake Funk LA vs. ARI
70.Trenton Cannon SF vs. SEA
71.Salvon Ahmed MIA vs. IND
72.Ameer Abdullah MIN vs. CLE
73.*Josh Jacobs LV at LAC
Note: (Toe, Ankle) Jacobs returned to practice Thursday - but Jon Gruden called Jacobs 'questionable at the moment.' ***Jacobs will be a game-time decision Monday night after limited practices all week.***
74.Devonta Freeman BAL at DEN
75.Kylin Hill GB vs. PIT
76.*Devontae Booker NYG at NO
Note: Deactivated in favor of Gary Brightwell last week.
77.*Elijah Mitchell SF vs. SEA
Note: The Niners are hopeful that Mitchell (shoulder) can practice this week. Mitchell had limited practices Wednesday and Thursday, wearing a no-contact jersey. ***Mitchell is listed as questionable, and it was suggested that it could come down to pain tolerance. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that it's unlikely that Mitchell will play.***
78.*Marlon Mack IND at MIA
Note: Healthy scratch last week, but available on the trade market and could be a nice upgrade in a new location.
79.*Giovani Bernard TB at NE
Note: Bernard suffered an MCL sprain on the final offensive play of the game for the Bucs while scoring a touchdown last week. Missed practice both Wednesday and Thursday. ***Expected to miss Sunday night's game.***
80.*Carlos Hyde JAC at CIN

6.*Calvin Ridley ATL vs. WAS
Note: The volume is present, but the Air Yards are lacking right now.
7.Adam Thielen MIN vs. CLE
8.*Keenan Allen LAC vs. LV
Note: Allen was limited at Thursday's practice with an ankle issue - keep in mind the Chargers play on Monday night, so this is their first practice. ***Limited practices this week, but Allen was pulled off the injury list on Saturday.***
9.Justin Jefferson MIN vs. CLE

11.CeeDee Lamb DAL vs. CAR
12.Terry McLaurin WAS at ATL

83.Jamaal Williams DET at CHI
84.Zach Pascal IND at MIA
85.Christian Kirk ARZ at LAR

89.Latavius Murray BAL at DEN
90.*Ty'Son Williams BAL at DEN
