You might call Jones an IDP late bloomer. A special teams ace for most of his career, Jones landed in Cincinnati and, for the last two seasons, has emerged as a 100-plus tackler. He had 113 tackles last year after registering 116 the year before. Last season, he added 3.5 sacks to the mix, further increasing his IDP value.
Jones is coming off his best season since 2003, leading the Bengals with 116 tackles. He'll start again at middle linebacker, but if things go well for the Bengals, he'll start to get phased out in favor of Keith Rivers and Rey Maualuga, depending where they want to slot them. He's a good tackles source, but he won't provide much else.
Jones will start at middle linebacker. Though he will rack up a respectable number of tackles, he has not been able to notch enough sacks or interceptions since earlier on in his career with the Giants to merit any sort of value in IDP leagues.
Jones started at linebacker for the Eagles in 2006, recording 76 tackles while playing in all 16 games. After acquiring some depth at linebacker over the offseason, the Eagles waived Jones, who will have to battle for playing on the Saints this year. Though he will push Scott Shanle and Scott Fujita for a starting outside linebacker spot, he is likely to begin the 2007 season as a backup.
Trying to hold off Greg Richmond and Chris Gocong as the Eagles' starting strongside linebacker.
On the field, Jones has averaged 116 tackles over the last three seasons, including 90 stops in his first season as an Eagle, tops among linebackers. It doesn't look like he will slow down any time soon.
Jones, coming over from the Giants, will step into the starting strong-side linebacker position for the Eagles in 2004. He had 120 tackles in 2003 for the Giants and will fit in well on the Eagles defense.
Starting weakside linebacker, Jones will chip in with some tackles and an odd sack, but don't expect big fantasy numbers from him on a consistent basis.
