Spires was waived by the Raiders on Monday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

ANALYSIS
The Raiders decided to go with some younger players on their defensive line instead of the experienced Spires. He'll have a chance to catch on with another team before the start of the regular season.

Sprires gives the Raiders some extra depth at defensive end.

Five sacks, 51 tackles at left end in 2006. He's the starter there again as camp opens, but he'll face competition.

He'll start opposite Simeon Rice at left end for the Bucs. Second on the team with four sacks last season, and lead the team's defensive linemen with 35 tackles.

He's the likely starter opposite Simeon Rice on the Bucs' defensive line. With Rice nearly perpetually double-teamed, this gives Spires lots of sack opportunities, and he's converted a bunch of them over the past few seasons.

He'll likely get significant playing time as a reserve on the D-line in 2004, but his strength is run-blocking.

Spires had 37 tacles (27 solo) and three sacks last year, and he's good enough to insure that folks can't always double-team Simeon Rice at the other end of the defensive line.

Spires signed a one-year contract with the Raiders on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
