Williams (knee) has been ruled active ahead of Saturday's game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Williams will suit up on game day for the first time since going down with a knee injury against Tampa Bay in Week 12. The versatile defensive back has played multiple spots in the Saints' banged-up secondary this season. With top cornerback Marshon Lattimore (abdomen) and starting strong safety Marcus Maye (knee) both inactive versus the Browns, Williams should be in line for a very prominent workload Week 16.

Williams signed a one-year contract to remain with the Saints for an eighth consecutive season. The veteran safety is likely to continue playing in a rotational role during the 2022 campaign.
Williams logged a four-year low in defensive snaps per game in 2020 while seeing time at safety, outside cornerback and nickel back. He'll remain a key part of the Saints secondary but Williams may need an injury to reach IDP relevance.
Williams signed a one-year deal in the offseason to return for his fifth season with the Saints in 2020. Over his last three campaigns, Williams has appeared in 45 contests and recorded 22 passes defended, four interceptions, two forced fumbles and two sacks. He'll compete with Janoris Jenkins for snaps at cornerback, but Williams should still see a sizable role for the upcoming season as New Orleans looks to solidify its up-and-coming defense.
After two injury-plagued season, Williams was finally able to stay healthy in his third pro season, notching 47 tackles (34 solo), nine passes defensed and two interceptions across 16 games in 2017. Williams, however, is expected to start the year behind Marshawn Lattimore and Ken Crawley on the cornerback depth chart and will need to beat out fellow Florida State product Patrick Robinson for the nickel cornerback job in order to make an meaningful impact in most IDP leagues.
Williams was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, but he missed all of last season with a torn hamstring injury he suffered during training camp. After what amounted to a redshirt season, Williams, now healthy, has drawn rave reviews this offseason and during the early portions of training camp. Delvin Breaux and Keenan Lewis will presumably be the Saints' starting cornerbacks to begin the season, but with the modern NFL offense frequently deploying three-wide receiver sets, Williams should still see plenty of playing time from the nickel cornerback position.
Drafted in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Williams will compete to be a backup cornerback.
