2023 Fantasy Outlook
It's unclear whether Mostert will ever hold up to a substantial workload -- he hasn't played a full season since 2019 -- but his skill set is a perfect fit with coach Mike McDaniel's scheme, just as it was under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco when McDaniel was first the run game coordinator and then offensive coordinator. McDaniel quickly committed to Mostert as Miami's lead back last season, even after the front office signed Chase Edmonds to a bigger contract in free agency. McDaniel discarded Edmonds after three weeks, from which point Mostert ran away with the starting role. Miami's pass-heavy offense didn't work Mostert too heavily -- his season high in carries was just 18, and he got single-digits seven times -- but Mostert's 4.9 YPC partially offset that. The question for this season is the workload split between Mostert, Jeff Wilson and rookie third-round pick Devon Achane. Each offers something a little different, and none projects as a true workhorse, but Mostert's strong 2022 and prior history with McDaniel give reason to consider him the 1A. Read Past Outlooks

Shouldn't need ankle surgery
Mostert said Monday he doesn't expect to undergo surgery to address the ankle injury that hindered him down the stretch of the 2023 season, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert entered Saturday's 26-7 wild-card loss to the Chiefs nursing both knee and ankle injuries, but frigid weather conditions and an unfortunate game script limited him to eight carries for 33 yards. He also secured one of two targets for minus-3 yards. Looking ahead to his age-32 season, it's certainly encouraging that Mostert won't have to rehab from surgery, as he has yet to show signs of losing a step. Across 15 regular-season appearances, Mostert set a franchise record with 21 total scores while rushing for 1,012 yards on 209 carries (4.8 YPC). With one more season left on his two-year deal, the stage looks set for Mostert to once again headline one of the NFL's most efficient rushing attacks alongside De'Von Achane during the 2024 campaign.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Optimism regarding Saturday
Head coach Mike McDaniel remains optimistic about Mostert, who missed the last two regular-season games with knee and ankle injuries, being available for Saturday night's matchup against the Chiefs, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was able to put in a trio of limited practices this week, upping the chances of playing in the high-stakes matchup. Rookie De'Von Achane and fellow veteran Jeff Wilson have done a solid job filling in for Mostert, but the latter's availability would be a boon for Miami's prospects in a game during which the ground game could take on extra importance due to inclement weather conditions.

A breakout star for San Francisco in 2019, Mostert played only eight games in 2020 due to
various lower-body injuries but nonetheless entered last season atop the depth chart for Kyle
Shanahan. Unfortunately, the veteran back lasted only four snaps before suffering a knee injury
that eventually required season-ending surgery. When he's healthy, Mostert is one of the fastest players in the league and is capable of turning any play into a touchdown, but his body simply
might not be able to handle a large workload. That shouldn't be a problem this season, of
course. After signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins this offseason, Mostert joins a
backfield that includes Chase Edmonds and Myles Gaskin, both of whom handled lead roles at some point within the last couple seasons. There won't be enough snaps
and touches to go around, and while Mostert is the most dangerous runner of the bunch when
he's in top form, that might not be enough to guarantee regular production.
