Reaches injury settlement
WRKansas City Chiefs

August 26, 2021
Kansas City released Williams (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Thursday, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams dealt with a groin injury early in camp but was healthy for the preseason opener against the 49ers. It is unclear if the groin issue is the reason for his latest trip to injured reserve. The 26-year-old will be free to sign with another team once he fulfills the terms of his settlement. He's played in just one game since 2018, but during that season he caught 17 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown across 10 contests for the Cardinals.

2017
The Cardinals probably were hoping for more out of Williams after tabbing him in the third round of last year's draft, but he kicked off his initial training camp with less-than-ideal conditioning and couldn't recover. His performance was even more disappointing because the situation was ripe for the picking. After premier pass-catching back David Johnson was knocked out for the season Week 1, the four leading receivers behind Larry Fitzgerald's 109 catches and six touchdowns ranged from 29-33 grabs and 2-4 TDs. Williams was not one of them, finishing with a dismal line of 3-31-0 on seven targets in six appearances, all coinciding with DNPs from John Brown. Brown and Jaron Brown left via free agency, but Williams must vie with J.J. Nelson, 2018 second-round pick Christian Kirk and Brice Butler for positioning on the depth chart.
With the post-Larry Fitzgerald era in mind, the Cardinals selected a wide receiver in the middle rounds for the third time in four years, tabbing Williams in the third round of April's draft. Williams joins a receiving corps with a number of burners, namely John Brown and J.J. Nelson, both of whom are expected to block the rookie from regular reps off the bat. As a developmental player, Williams may only strike on occasion this season as head coach Bruce Arians attempts to keep opposing defenses honest.
