Webb was released by the Giants on Tuesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb never really had a chance to get off the ground with the Giants, suiting up for just two games last season purely as a special teams player. An emergency quarterback/wide receiver like Webb could certainly be viewed as an intriguing depth piece, but the need for that versatility figures to lessen in a more normal 2021 campaign.

Webb returns to the Texans for a second season after serving in a variety of roles in 2018. A quarterback when he entered the league in 2010, the 32-year-old Webb has long since transitioned to wide receiver and special-teams ace. It was on special teams where he spent a bulk of his time last year. He was forced into playing time as a wide receiver, too, as Will Fuller (knee) and Keke Coutee (hamstring) missed a combined 19 games. With good health in play following the offseason, Webb will be last on the depth chart at both quarterback and wideout. Unfortunately, Webb suffered a foot injury and landed on injured reserve.
Webb is designated as the Panthers' third-string quarterback, but he hasn't thrown a single pass since joining the team in 2014. However, the converted wideout isn't totally inactive, as he's totaled 15 special teams tackles, a couple of receptions and over 350 kick return yards during the same span.
Re-signed to a two-year deal this offseason, Webb has spent the past couple seasons as the Panthers’ third-string quarterback, where he’s an emergency option behind reigning MVP Cam Newton and solid backup Derek Anderson. However, given his unique athleticism, Webb has contributed on special teams since arriving in Carolina.
Will compete for the Panthers' third-string quarterback position this season.
Webb played both quarterback and wide receiver during his time with the Vikings, never impressing enough at either position to cement his spot on the roster long-term. Now, he joins the Panthers with a focus on making the team as a reserve signal-caller.
Webb will convert full-time to wide receiver after mainly working as a backup quarterback the past three seasons. He had a disastrous start at quarterback in the playoffs last season when he needed to fill in for an injured Christian Ponder at the last minute. His athleticism will make him a decent transition to receiver, but his fantasy production is uncertain.
Webb will be the backup to starter Christian Ponder. After two seasons where the Vikings toyed with using Webb at other positions to utilize his athleticism (he caught a pass as a receiver and returned a kickoff), the coaching staff say he'll focus only on playing quarterback. He started one game last season and played significant minutes in two other games when Ponder was hurt. Webb has tremendous speed and has scored four rushing touchdowns in just six games where he's received significant playing time. If Ponder were to get hurt, Webb would have decent fantasy value as a starter for his running ability alone. However, he showed signs of improving as a passer last season and there are some who think it's possible he could emerge as Minnesota's long-term starter if Ponder falters.
After a few exciting performances in 2010, it seemed that Webb may be able to compete for the starting job in Minnesota. With Tavaris Jackson off to Seattle, Webb's only competition was Christian Ponder, the 12th pick in the 2011 Draft. Unfortunately for Webb, the Vikings then traded two sixth-round picks for Donovan McNabb, which likely eliminated any chance of Webb starting in Minnesota this season.
Webb will try to win the No. 3 QB role. He's a great athlete with a strong vertical leap and speed, but is raw as a quarterback. The Vikings initially were going to move him to receiver, but have decided to keep him at quarterback.
