Coleman remains without a team as of early July and the Bills have elected not to bring him back for a second season, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Buffalo brass loves its old Carolina connections, but Coleman appeared past his prime last season and at 32 years of age his best bet will likely be in a backup role with a new team in need of secondary depth. The Bills aren't in that boat any more following some offseason signings and draft picks the last couple of years. Coleman finished 2019 with just three tackles and no interceptions on 70 defense snaps, as he was clearly just an insurance safety that ended up helping out on special teams.

Coleman averaged more than 90 total tackles in 2015 and 2016 as the starting free safety with the Panthers, but a variety of injuries limited the nine-year vet to just 76 total tackles in 2017, leading Coleman to sign with the rival Saints this offseason. Coleman should see plenty of snaps in the Saints' frequent three-safety formations, but he likely will begin the year behind incumbent free-safety starter Marcus Williams on the depth chart.
Coleman has traditionally been a benching risk due to the fact that he's a better fantasy player than a real-life one, but in Carolina his three-down role appears safe, if only for a lack of competition at safety. So long as he's getting his snaps, Coleman should provide standout IDP utility. Indeed, he's been a top-shelf producer in Carolina for two years, totaling 185 tackles, 11 interceptions and two touchdowns in 30 games. Coleman is a gambler in coverage and has always been a ballhawk as a result, but Carolina's scheme does a good job of limiting his vulnerability to the big play.
The deal with Coleman has been known for some time: he makes a lot of plays and he gives up a lot of plays. But when you play on a defense with a pass rush as fierce as Carolina's, you have a much bigger margin of error. Carolina can afford to deal with Coleman's occasional sloppiness, because being out of position doesn't matter so much if the quarterback is getting hit as he throws. 2015 was the best year of his career, and he should put up a similar box score in 2016 if he can avoid getting embarrassed. The slight threat of a benching can't be ignored, though.
Reunited with Panthers' defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, Coleman registered 37 tackles and three interceptions for the Chiefs last season, when his role expanded in wake of teammate Eric Berry's absence. Now in Carolina, Coleman is expected to back-up Tre Boston at starting free safety, but should see a decent amount of snaps weekly and make significant special teams contributions.
.
A starter for most of 2011 and 2012, Coleman is suddenly buried on the Philadelphia depth chart and could have his roster spot in danger.
He'll need to hold off Oshiomogho Atogwe and Jaiquawn Jarrett, but it generally appears that Coleman should enter 2012 as Philadelphia's starter opposite Nate Allen. He tends to give up too many plays, but Coleman has sneaky IDP value if he's on the field, as he finished 2011 with 78 tackles (56 solo) and four interceptions despite starting just 13 games.
Competing with Jaiquawn Jarrett for the starting strong safety spot.
Coleman is a defensive back who may struggle to make the team in 2010.
