Burton is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Andrew Walker of Colts.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It'll be an interesting offseason in Indianapolis, where Marcus Brady was promoted from QBs coach to offensive coordinator after the Eagles hired Nick Sirianni. With QB Philip Rivers retiring and WR T.Y. Hilton headed for free agency, the Colts could aim for a youth movement on the offensive side of the ball. Burton had three receiving touchdowns and two rushing TDs in 2020, but he averaged only 2.2 catches for 19.2 yards per game, working in a timeshare with Jack Doyle and Mo Alie-Cox. Both Burton and Alie-Cox are scheduled for free agency (the latter is a RFA), while the Colts can clear up more than $4 million in cap space if Doyle is released.

Burton had a workout with the Jaguars on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Jacksonville came into the season thin at tight end before losing starter James O'Shaughnessy to a high-ankle sprain, so Burton could provide much-needed reinforcement at the position, both during O'Shaughnessy's multi-week absence and beyond. In addition to racking up 98 games of NFL experience between the Eagles, Bears and Colts, Burton also played for Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer in college at Florida, where Burton actually started as a quarterback before converting to tight end.

Burton's NFL journey took him from "Philly Special" to Chicago, where he cashed $18 million for a pair of less-than-stellar seasons. He was useful in 2018 with 54 catches, but last season started with a groin injury before a calf injury sent him to IR in mid-November. Then he had surgery for a hip labrum injury in December. Once the Bears cut him loose, Burton wasted no time in signing with Indianapolis, where he'll hope to replace Eric Ebron. Jack Doyle figures to the primary in-line tight end, while Burton will try to carve out a role based on slot work and passing downs.
Burton was prominent on everyone's sleeper page last year, headed to Chicago with a big contract and whispers of the "Zach Ertz role" waiting for him. The checks cashed just fine, but Burton never fully got on track with the Bears, held back by a combination of his own uneven play and the growing pains of second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. A groin injury kept Burton out of Chicago's infamous wild-card loss to Philadelphia. To be fair, Burton's disappointing year wasn't a total wash. Sparked by touchdown deodorant, he finished at TE6 in standard scoring and TE8 in PPR. Chicago has a lot of interesting skill players, but there isn't one clear bet to lead this team in touchdowns. Matt Nagy should be a better play designer now that he's more familiar with his personnel, and maybe Trubisky still has a level or two to climb. Last year Burton was a hard purchase to make - the bandwagon was so darn crowded. Maybe this year, with less competition at the table, you can set yourself up for a more reasonable purchase. No one is comparing him to Ertz any longer, but that doesn't mean Burton lacks splash potential.
Burton had a hard time getting on the field in Philadelphia, given the depth of the receiving group and the chops of the first-string tight end, Zach Ertz. But when Burton's name was called last year, he was ready - five touchdowns on 31 looks, and a couple of double-digit fantasy games when Ertz needed to sit. Burton also had a Super Bowl touchdown on the passing end of the "Philly Special" gadget play at the goal line. The Bears threw a four-year, $32 million package at Burton in free agency, and new coach Matt Nagy says Burton will play the "Travis Kelce role" in Chicago's offense. Maybe the coach-speak doesn't matter to you, but following the money is never a bad idea. And Chicago's receiving group was suspect last year and still has plenty of questions this season. Burton is going to show up on a lot of sleeper lists - but we'd also like to see some confirmation in summer.
Primarily a special teams player and the third tight end option during his first two pro seasons, Burton re-signed as a restricted free agent this offseason after supplanting Brent Celek as the No. 2 tight end target in Philadelphia over the course of 2016. The former Florida Gator posted career highs in catches (37), targets (60) and receiving yards (327), all at least double Celek's numbers. However, Zach Ertz remains the tight end to own on the Eagles, so unless something happens to him, Burton won't have much relevance to the fantasy game in 2017 outside of deep leagues.
After an impressive preseason showing prior to his 2015 campaign, Burton recorded just three catches for 54 yards on four targets while buried on the depth chart behind Brent Celek and Zach Ertz throughout last season. Both Celek and Ertz signed multi-year extensions with the Eagles this offseason, so it could be another season of waiting for Burton, barring an injury to either of the two tight ends above him. At this point it's clear the 24-year-old won't have a big enough role to garner much fantasy interest.
Burton was a special teams whiz in his first year with the Eagles. However, when it comes to offensive production, he’ll still be the team’s third tight end option, and he probably won’t see much more than a scant few receptions.
