DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Breakdown

DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

Tuesday's NHL slate is a large one, with 11 games on the docket after 7:00 PM Eastern time. Below, you'll find an overview of the matchups and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.

SLATE PREVIEW

Two powerhouse teams will have the opportunity to beat up on lesser visitors with the Bruins and Lightning hosting the Kings and Senators, respectively. The Blue Jackets in Detroit and Coyotes in San Jose are both teeming with appealing options as well, and there's plenty of value to be found across the rest of this slate as well.

GOALIES

Darcy Kuemper ($7,500) boasts a remarkable 1.97 GAA and .935 save percentage, having allowed more than three goals just once through 23 appearances en route to a 14-7-2 record. He's a terrific value in net against a Sharks team that's won only once in its last seven games.

Jacob Markstrom ($7,500) is another goalie who should benefit from facing a struggling team. The visiting Canadiens are coming off an embarrassing 2-1 home loss to the Red Wings, which leaves them with only four wins in their past 14 games. Vancouver's goalie is a nice against-the-grain play in this matchup even though he's won just once in his past five starts.

The Flyers have gone cold of late, suffering three consecutive regulation losses while being outscored 14-5 in that stretch. Meanwhile, Ducks goalie John Gibson ($7,000) has won two of his past three starts while stopping 76 of 83 shots over that stretch for a .916 save percentage. Given those recent trends, Gibson's primed to deliver strong bang for the buck in Philadelphia.

Whomever the Bruins choose between Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak (both $8,500) should be worth paying up for at home against the bottom-five Kings offense. Both Boston goalies sport a sub-.230 GAA and a save percentage north of .925.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Taylor Hall ($6,500) will be chomping at the bit to get back into game action for the first time since Dec. 10 in his Coyotes debut. The Devils were holding the star winger out to keep him healthy ahead of an imminent trade, and Hall's debut with his new club comes in an ideal matchup against a Sharks team that gives up 3.46 goals per game — third-most after the Red Wings and the Devils team Hall just left.

Jack Eichel ($8,100) is enjoying the best stretch of his career, as he's posted a 15-14-29 line over a 16-game point streak, including five goals in the last three games. The Sabres' star should continue to be worth paying up for against a Maple Leafs team that's letting in 3.15 goals per game.

Chandler Stephenson ($3,300) has a three-game point streak working, as he's been entrusted with a key role centering Vegas' two best wingers in Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone. The affordable center should remain a nice value play as long as he maintains that favorable spot in the lineup, and a matchup with a Wild team that ranks among the five most generous with 3.26 goals allowed per game further enhances Stephenson's outlook here.

Bryan Rust ($6,200) continues to be a bargain considering he's done nothing but produce after getting a late start to the season because of an injury. In 19 games since making his return, the Pittsburgh winger has a 12-10-22 line, including three goals and an assist in the last two games. Assuming he's able to play through an illness, Rust should stay hot against a Flames team that has a minus-9 goal differential through 35 games. With the illness likely to scare off many owners, Rust could turn into a tremendous GPP play.

The Canucks sport a top-five power play (25.3 percent), led by Elias Pettersson's ($7,100) six goals and 17 points on the man advantage. His success with the extra man should continue against Montreal's bottom-five penalty kill (76.0 percent).

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Bruins vs. Kings

Patrice Bergeron (C - $7,200), David Pastrnak (W - $7,700), Brad Marchand (W - $6,800)

Los Angeles has played better of late, but the Kings are still a dreadful 4-12-2 on the road, and they have allowed 3.14 goals per game overall. The sky's the limit for Boston's tremendous top line in this favorable matchup. Marchand ranks fourth league-wide with 50 points while Pastrnak is tied with Eichel for fifth at 48. Pastrnak's 28 goals also have him five clear of second-place Eichel for the league lead, and Bergeron has been tremendous when healthy with a 10-17-27 line in 25 games.

Lightning vs. Senators

Anthony Cirelli (C - $4,600), Steven Stamkos (W - $7,100), Alex Killorn (W - $5,200)

With Tampa Bay catching a bottom-five Senators team on the second leg of a back-to-back, this could turn into the night's most lopsided contest. Nikita Kucherov (lower body) will likely be sidelined, so this line becomes the Lightning's likeliest source of offense. Stamkos leads the Lightning with 13 goals and ranks second on the team behind Kucherov with 29 points, Killorn is on pace for a career-best season with 26 points through 29 games, while Cirelli has a respectable 6-15-21 line in 30.

Blue Jackets at Red Wings

Boone Jenner (C - $4,800), Gustav Nyquist (W - $5,400), Oliver Bjorkstrand (W - $5,900)

With only nine wins and a minus-60 goal differential, the Red Wings have proven themselves to be by far the worst team in the league, so stacking against Detroit is rarely a bad idea. Columbus' top line has enough skill to take advantage of this favorable matchup, as Nyquist leads the team with 21 points in 33 games, Bjorkstrand just scored two goals in Monday's upset of the Capitals and Jenner is due to pick up his 8.7 shooting percentage -- the one-time 30-goal scorer has a career mark of 10.1 percent.

DEFENSEMEN

Given his productivity and matchup, Victor Hedman's a steal at just $5,400. With 28 points, the 2018 Norris Trophy winner is just one behind Stamkos. Hedman's great as a stand-alone option or part of a Lightning stack.

Rasmus Dahlin ($4,600) has hit the ground running since returning from a concussion, logging a point in each of his first two games back while adding six shots in the last one. The first overall pick from the 2018 draft is unlikely to stay this cheap for long considering he's up to 18 points through 26 games, so lock him in at $4,600 while you still can.

Shea Theodore ($5,400) has rediscovered his touch after an eight-game point drought, dishing out five assists in his last two games. He's tested goalies often with 22 shots in the past six games and gets a nice opportunity to break through in the goal column against the defensively challenged Wild.

With Zach Werenski sidelined by a shoulder injury, Seth Jones ($6,300) is the clear-cut top option on Columbus' blue line against the lowly Red Wings. Jones' 17 points are just four shy of Nyquist's team-leading total, as the blueliner is tracking toward a fourth consecutive season over 40 points.
