Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There are 11 games in Saturday's slate, and this article will be focusing on the 10 evening contests. A few notable matchups will be highlighted tonight. The Battle of Alberta is on between the Flames and Oilers, as the former will have to face James Neal, who they (regrettably) shipped away for Milan Lucic this past summer. Joe Pavelski will also return to San Jose, where he played 13 seasons. There's plenty of DFS upside outside of these matchups, though, so read on to help set your lineup tonight.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, WAS vs. NJD ($26): Holtby isn't this cheap without a reason; he hasn't posted over a .900 save percentage in a game since Dec. 21. However, his long string of success against the Devils is cause for optimism, as he's posted a career 17-3-3 record with a .927 save percentage against the team. Furthermore, the Devils rank 29th over the last two weeks with just 1.72 GF/60 at even strength, per Natural Stat Trick.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Carter Hart, PHI vs. TB ($27): Hart isn't having an eye-popping campaign anyway, and now he'll be up against the Lightning. There's no team hotter than the Bolts right now, as they've won nine straight games and averaged 4.7 goals per contest in that stretch. Home ice won't be the savior here.

CENTER

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS vs. NJD ($24): Backstrom carries a seven-game point streak into this contest, and he's logging over four minutes on the power play per game in that span. It's unlikely he slows down. The Devils have yielded 15 goals over the past three games, and the Devils' penalty kill ranks 19th in the league (79.9 percent).

CENTER TO AVOID

William Karlsson, VGK vs. CLS ($23): Karlsson's in a six-game point drought, and he hasn't surpassed 4.7 fantasy points in any of those contests. Getting back on track shouldn't take long for a player this talented, but no team has kept the puck out of the net lately better than the Blue Jackets. Over the past month, the Jackets have let in just 1.71 G/60 at even strength.

WING

Alex Killorn, TB at PHI ($21): The 30-year-old is just one score away from a career-high 19 goals, and he's hot right now with five markers over the past six games. The Flyers' crease is in a slump, too, as it's allowed five-plus goals in four of the last five games.

Tyler Bozak, STL vs. NYR ($17): Bozak has been superb since the holiday break, racking up five goals and three helpers over seven contests. Henrik Lundqvist will be in the opposing crease, and The King has struggled on the road this year to the tune of an .893 save percentage and 3.52 GAA.

WINGS TO AVOID

Jordan Eberle, NYI vs. BOS ($18): Eberle has just one point over the past seven games, and he's averaging 16:05 of ice time per contest. It'll be difficult to turn things around here since the Bruins lead the league with a 2.47 GAA on the road.

Rickard Rakell, ANA at CHI ($17): Rakell still carries fond memories of those 30-goal seasons, but they look like a thing of the past. He's lit the lamp just 10 times over 38 games this year, and he's pointless over the last four outings. It seems likely Robin Lehner gets back in the blue paint tonight, and he's accrued a .922 save percentage this year.

DEFENSE

Zach Werenski, CLS at VGK ($19): Werenski's recent performance reflects his first-round pedigree. He's stacked up seven goals and 26 shots on net over the past six games, and he's second on the team in ice time per game (24:51) during that span. Meanwhile, Vegas has allowed four-plus goals in four straight outings.

Adam Fox, NYR at STL ($18): This is a bit of a contrarian play considering how gamers will flock to Anthony DeAngelo after his five-point eruption Thursday. This is an intriguing matchup, though. The Blues have let up 8.81 G/60 to opposing power plays -- ninth worst in the league -- so a Rangers blueliner is necessary. Fox has accrued 10 of his 24 points with the man advantage this season.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Erik Karlsson, SAN vs. DAL ($21): Karlsson's floor doesn't exist this year. He's minus-15, has failed to record a shot on net on eight occasions and didn't block a shot in 15 other contests. The Stars have been a tough nut to crack over the last month too, as they've yielded 1.81 G/60 at even strength -- the second-best rate in the league.

Miro Heiskanen, DAL at SJ ($19): Heiskanen hasn't notched a point in seven games, and he's not getting an overwhelming amount of opportunities. The 20-year-old starts just 50.2 percent of shifts in the offensive zone. On the other hand, the Sharks have a 2.66 GAA over the past six contests.
