Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

This is no run-of-the-mill Tuesday as far as the NHL is concerned. There are 11 games on the slate, offering a robust collection of options for your DFS lineups. It had been 12, but then the Devils and Senators game got postponed. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your daily fantasy contests.

GOALIE

Jordan Binnington, STL vs. ARI ($39): Binnington has had a couple rough starts recently, leaving him with a 2.80 GAA and .915 save percentage. This matchup should cure what's ailing him, as the Coyotes have scored a mere 1.53 goals per game. No other team is lower than 2.12. Arizona is also last in shots on net per contest. This is a brutal offense. Binnington should benefit.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. EDM ($23): Since returning from a brief absence Hellebuyck has a 1.62 GAA and .944 save percentage at home. It might be tough for the American netminder to keep that up, though. The Oilers have scored 4.14 goals per game, highest in the NHL.

CENTER

Tyler Seguin, DAL vs. DET ($20): Seguin only played in three games last season, and he started this year a little slowly. However, he now has five points over his last five contests. The Red Wings are in the bottom five in shots on net allowed per game, and they are also on the road for the second leg of a back-to-back.

CENTER TO AVOID

Sean Couturier, PHI vs. CGY ($23): Couturier has 12 points in 13 games, though zero in his last three contests. He'll likely be facing Jacob Markstrom on Tuesday, who has an 1.81 GAA and .935 save percentage. That likely won't continue, but the Flames have also only allowed 28.8 shots on net per game.

WING

Vladimir Tarasenko, STL vs. ARI ($23): Quietly, Tarasenko has started to look like the player he was before injuries derailed his career for a couple seasons. He leads the Blues with a whopping 53 shots on net in 14 games, and with a goal in each of his last three games he now has seven on the season. I would like to congratulate the Coyotes on getting their GAA under 4.00, but they still have a league-high 3.93 mark.

Kasperi Kapanen, PIT vs. BUF ($17): Kapanen has tallied nine points in 14 games. That's after he had 30 points in 40 contests last season, his first campaign back with the team that originally drafted him. Additionally, the Finn has played a robust 3:43 per game on the power play. Craig Anderson hasn't been able to return to the ice, and Dustin Tokarski has a .908 save percentage, which is actually higher than his career average of .905.

WINGS TO AVOID

Kirill Kaprizov, MIN vs. SAN ($26): Kaprizov has been a little unlucky on the shooting front (6.4 percent shooting) but he still has 11 points, including three on the power play. Speaking of power plays, though, the Sharks have the league's best penalty kill. I don't know if they can keep that up, mostly because I doubt James Reimer can keep up his .940 save percentage. However, it's all enough to give me pause on last year's Calder Trophy winner.

Troy Terry, ANA vs. WAS ($22): Terry has already tied his career high with 20 points, and he's done it in only 15 games. He's only been held without a point in one game all year, and that was the season opener. Of course, regression is going to arrive. He's not Wayne Gretzky, and his 30.6 percent shooting is not sustainable. I think this could be the day Terry's point streak ends. Washington has a 2.40 GAA, owing largely to the fact its only given up 26.7 shots on net per contest.

DEFENSE

Jacob Trouba, NYR vs. MON ($18): Trouba is overshadowed by Adam Fox, and with good reason, but he still has four points over his last three games. He also gets some power-play time when Fox is getting a little rest, which opens up a smidge of opportunity. The Canadiens have a 3.41 GAA and also a bottom-five penalty kill. Maybe that minute or so of time with the extra man will pay off Tuesday.

Justin Faulk, STL vs. ARI ($17): Faulk has five points this season, although four of them came in his first two games. That being said, he's started 62.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest of any player currently active for the Blues. He also has 39 shots on goal in 14 games. Facing the team with the worst GAA in the league could get Faulk back on the scoresheet.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Roman Josi, NAS at TOR ($27): Josi is off to a strong start, to nobody's surprise, but that means a hefty salary. On the road against the Maple Leafs may be one of those days to spend that salary elsewhere. Jack Campbell has a 1.82 GAA and .939 save percentage. They also have a top-five penalty kill, and while I question some of the teams at the top of the current rankings, I believe the Leafs to be legitimate.

Shea Theodore, VGK vs. CAR ($19): Theodore has been a weapon on the power play for the Golden Knights the last couple seasons. However, after two years of averaging over three minutes per game with the extra man, Theodore is down to 2:16 this season. Carolina's 1.92 GAA is lowest in the league, and it is also in the top five in both shots allowed per game and on the penalty kill.
