Edmonton assigned Quine to AHL Bakersfield on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The Oilers needed to send Quine down in order to make room for Joakim Nygard on their taxi squad. The 27-year-old forward only picked up one goal in nine games with Calgary last campaign and will likely continue to bounce between levels throughout the 2020-21 season, so there's no reason for virtual managers to track his status.

Quine once again spent the majority of 2018-19 campaign in the minors, recording 19 goals and 33 assists in 41 games for AHL Stockton. In two stints with the Flames, he scored three goals and added a pair of helpers in 13 games. The 26-year-old forward provides organizational depth, and he's shown the ability to step into a bottom-six role when the injuries pile up, but there's no reason for fantasy owners to have him on their radars during drafts this season.
Diehard Islanders fans will always remember Quine's double-overtime winner to beat the Panthers in Game 5 of the 2016 Stanley Cup quarterfinals, but that's about the only bright spot of Quine's tenure with the club. Last season, he failed to brush twine and had just three points in 21 NHL games, spending most of the season either hurt or in the press box as a healthy scratch. Consequently, the Islanders let him walk in free agency, and he signed a two-way contract with the Flames in the summer. Quine will probably have to wait for an injury to crack the NHL starting lineup. He's displayed a solid scoring torch during his AHL career but hasn't been able to produce at the next level.
A third-round pick in 2011 by the Wings and then a sixth-round pick in 2013 by the Isles, Quine made good over his last two AHL seasons (109 points in 131 games from 2014-16) and ended up backing into a steady bottom-six role in Brooklyn last season, providing five goals and 18 points in 61 contests. Unfortunately, with the Islanders running deep at every forward position, it appears likely that the 24-year-old will spend most of the 2017-18 campaign either watching from the press box or in the minors -- though it’s not clear that Quine, who’s on a one-way deal, would pass through waivers unclaimed.
Quine is really nothing more than organizational depth at this point in time and could once again spend time between the AHL and ECHL. He more than likely has limited future with the Islanders.
The Islanders drafted Quine in the sixth round of the 2013 entry draft after his rights with the Red Wings expired. Quine tore up the OHL after being traded to the Belleville Bulls last season, notching 41 points and a plus-29 in 28 games.
