In talks
DeMelo, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Jets have begun discussions about the future, RDS.ca reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
DeMelo has a goal, 13 points, 68 hits and 71 blocks in 40 contests with Winnipeg this season. The talks between the two sides haven't elevated to the point of being contract negotiations, but it's a start. DeMelo comes with a $3 million cap hit in 2023-24, and the defensive defenseman will likely seek a raise given his top-four role.

DeMelo has been a steady depth defender over the course of his first seven NHL seasons and last year was no different. He managed 13 points in 76 games for the Jets, adding 113 hits and 108 blocks. DeMelo has never finished with more than four goals and 22 points in any single campaign and his hit and block totals aren't substantial enough to make him a consistent fantasy option for those categories. Look elsewhere on draft day.
