Losing streak hits four
FlyweightUFC
September 19, 2020
Romero Borella lost to Mayra Bueno Silva via submission (armbar) at 2:29 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Surprisingly given a fourth opportunity on the heels of three straight defeats, Romero Borella used her upper-body strength to twist Silva to the ground, but she eventually left her arm exposed and found herself tapping out just moments later. The 34-year-old Italian began her UFC run with a submission win over Kalindra Faria back in October 2017, but has since dropped five of her past six fights, including four in a row.
Added to September card
FlyweightUFC
August 5, 2020
Romero Borella will take on Mayra Bueno Silva in a flyweight matchup scheduled for September 5, Marcelo Barone of Combate reports.
ANALYSIS
Romero Borella has had a tough 2020, as her losing streak has extended to three, she received a medical suspension and had a recent fight against Miranda Maverick called off. Now, she'll look to get back in the win column against Bueno Silva, who is 1-1 with the company, coming off a loss to Maryna Moroz in a bout that was awarded Fight of the Night. Romero Borella will enter with a three-inch reach advantage, and both women stand at 5-6. While the sample size is small for Bueno Silva, Romero Borella seems to have the grappling edge, while the striking marks -- at least offensively -- lie in favor of her opponent.
Fight called off
FlyweightUFC
June 26, 2020
Romero Borella's scheduled fight Saturday versus Miranda Maverick (undisclosed) at UFC on ESPN 12 has been called off, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The UFC was unable to find a replacement for Romero Borella to face on short notice after Maverick withdrew due to an injury suffered in training that prevented her from taking part. As a result, Romero Borella will need to wait a little longer to get back into the octagon.
Needs new opponent
FlyweightUFC
June 24, 2020
Romero Borella will require a new opponent after Miranda Maverick backed out of UFC on ESPN 12 on Wednesday, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Romero Borella was set to welcome Maverick to the UFC in her debut, but she'll now need another opponent on rather short notice. She is looking to break out of a three-bout losing streak and has lost four of her last five, so Romero Borella may need the victory to continue booking consistent fights.
Will welcome Maverick to UFC
FlyweightUFC
June 18, 2020
Romero Borella will welcome Miranda Maverick to the UFC in a flyweight matchup scheduled for June 27 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Romero Borella has now dropped three consecutive fights following a May 16 submission defeat at the hands of Courtney Casey. While the flyweight division is generally regarded as shallow, she could be on her last legs with the UFC if unable to handle the debuting Maverick. Maverick has won four fights in a row with Invicta, most recently besting former UFC fighter Pearl Gonzalez in April. If there's a bright side for Romero Borella, she'll enter this fight with roughly a three-inch advantage in height and four-inch advantage in reach.
