Crumbles in loss to Louis Smolka
BantamweightUFC
December 5, 2020
Quinonez lost to Louis Smolka via TKO (punches) at 2:15 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 19 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing defeat for Quinonez in a fight in which he appeared to be in pretty good shape for the first five minutes. Quinonez started hot, picking Smolka apart on the feet and scoring a couple nice takedowns with a body lock. Quinonez's issues began late in the first frame and into Round 2, as his pace slowed considerably. He found himself flattened out about halfway through the second frame and was unable to extract himself from the position. Quinonez began his UFC run with four victories in his first five bouts, but it's been tough sledding of late. The 30-year-old is just 1-3 dating back to March 2019.

Not competitive in UFC 248 loss
BantamweightUFC
March 7, 2020
Quinonez lost to Sean O'Malley via TKO (strikes) at 2:02 of Round 1 at UFC 248 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was obviously a lousy performance from Quinonez and it was made all the worse by the fact he was facing an opponent who hadn't fought in two years. There was nothing to suggest Quinonez would give O'Malley a serious challenge and that proved to be exactly the case. Despite entering Saturday's fight with a respectable 5-2 record with the company, Quinonez's last four victories had all come via decision and he had faced sub par competition. This had the feel of a fight in which the UFC was feeding O'Malley a sub par opponent in order to get a potential star an easy win in his first fight after a long layoff.

O'Malley has been out of the octagon due to injuries and a pair of failed drug tests.
