Improves to 5-1 in past six
LightweightUFC

Ziam defeated Claudio Puelles via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
Things got hairy for Ziam when the decision was announced, but he most definitely deserved to win. Fares lapped Puelles in terms of damage on the feet, closing with a 31-4 edge in terms of total strikes landed. He did give up a whopping seven takedowns, but thankfully for Ziam, Puelles never generated any real damage despite his seemingly constant positional advantages. Still just 26 years of age, Ziam has quietly won five of his last six dating back to October 2020. The lone concern is that all five of those victories have come via decision.

Barely gets past Jai Herbert
LightweightUFC
July 22, 2023
Ziam defeated Jai Herbert via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
The final numbers in this fight were lopsided, particularly on the feet. Ziam closed with a 96-58 edge in total strikes landed, in addition to connecting on the only successful takedown of the bout. He definitely landed the more damaging blows but was unable to gain any consistent separation from Herbert, to the point that this result appeared to be in doubt when the final bell rang. Ziam has been inconsistent over the course of his near four years with the company, but his 4-2 career mark with the UFC in perfectly reasonable. Ziam also won't be 27 years of age until next March. There's some potential long-term staying power here.

Pulls upset in Paris

Ziam defeated Michal Figlak via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Paris.
ANALYSIS
Full marks to Ziam for this strong showing. The UFC reportedly already told him they wouldn't be renewing his contract when it expired, so Ziam accepted this fight against a highly-regarded prospect in Figlak and dominated from bell-to-bell as a +180 underdog. Ziam landed more than twice as many total strikes as his opponent (111-55), while connecting on three takedowns, good for 6:48 worth of control time. It was the type of performance that could very easily earn Ziam another opportunity with the UFC. His improvements inside the Octagon were extremely noticeable.
