ANALYSIS
Castaneda deserves full marks for simply outworking Kang in what, on paper, looked like a close bout. John closed with a 119-88 edge in total strikes landed, in addition to connecting on 3-of-8 takedown attempts. He was seemingly always in Kang's face despite the latter being the considerably bigger man. The first round was close, but the final 10 minutes were not. Set to turn 32 years of age in mid-December, Castaneda has quietly won four of five dating back to February 2021.

Castaneda will compete against Kyung Ho Kang in a catchweight fight at UFC 295, according to Nolan King of USA Today.

Castaneda will take on Kyung Ho Kang at UFC 295 in New York on Nov. 11, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport Nederland reports.

Castaneda defeated Muin Gafurov via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27) at UFC on ESPN 46 on Saturday in Las Vegas.

It was an encouraging performance from Castaneda in what was a wild, back-and-forth brawl. He survived some massive shots from the debuting Gafurov, which was very nice to see considering he was knocked out by Daniel Santos in his previous bout last October. Castaneda was buoyed by three successful takedowns, in addition to Gafurov being docked a point for leading with his head during a striking exchange between the two in Round 2, giving John some runway to work with in terms of the scorecards. The 31-year-old Minnesota native improves to 3-2 over the course of his first five UFC bouts.
