Fight with Akhmedov set for January
December 7, 2020
Breese (leg) agreed Monday to face Omari Akhmedov (20-5-1) in a middleweight fight at the UFC's Jan. 16 event, Marcel Dorff of reports.
Breese (12-2-0) returns to the Octagon for the first time since Oct. 10, when he soundly defeated K.B. Bhullar via TKO in Abu Dhabi. The 29-year-old Englishman came out of the bout with a left leg injury, but his inclusion on the Jan. 16 card implies that he's gained full medical clearance at this point. "The Octopus" owns a 5-2 record since joining the UFC in 2015.
Possible leg injury
October 13, 2020
Breese is facing a potential 180-day medical suspension pending X-rays of his left leg, reports.
Breese didn't look the least bit hampered in his dominant victory against K.B. Bhullar, but his post-fight medicals seem to have revealed a leg injury that the athletic commission will want him to get checked out. He'll be sidelined for a minimum of 30 days -- which rules out a quick turnaround on Fight Island -- but could be out until spring of 2021 unless cleared earlier.
Blows past K.B. Bhullar
October 10, 2020
Breese defeated K.B. Bhullar via TKO (punches) at 1:42 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Easy work. It's rare to see a fighter dominate a fight throwing nothing but jabs, but that's what happened here. Breese spotted a weakness in Bhullar's armor and repeatedly exploited it. It's difficult to believe Breese entered this fight as ONLY a -210 favorite considering the gap in ability between the two. Breese has always had talent but has struggled with consistency. The 29-year-old has now alternated wins and losses in his past five fights. Perhaps this strong performance will get him going. At the very least, he'll take home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts here.
Facing new opponent
September 26, 2020
Breese will fight K.B. Bhullar in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night on Oct. 10, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Breese was scheduled to face Roman Kopylov, but he was forced to withdraw for unspecified reasons. He'll instead get a matchup with Bhullar, who will be making his UFC debut instead of appearing on the Dana White Contender Series as previously scheduled.
Facing Kopylov in October
August 28, 2020
Breese will face Roman Kopylov in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night on Oct. 3, reports.
Breese last fought in February, when he lost to Brendan Allen via TKO (strikes) during Round 1, but he'll have a chance to get back on track in October. Kopylov hasn't fought since making his UFC debut in November, when he was handed his first professional defeat at the hands of Karl Roberson.
