Hits the wall in the championship rounds
MiddleweightBellator
December 16, 2018
Ruth lost to Neiman Gracie via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:17 of Round 4 at Bellator 213 on Saturday in Honolulu.
ANALYSIS
This was clearly the biggest and toughest fight of Ruth's young career. He was obviously going to need to avoid submissions against Gracie. Early in the fight, he had success with his wrestling and avoided a variety of submission attempts. However, he ran out of gas, and in the fourth round, Gracie took over. Ruth gave up a takedown and his back before submitting to the rear-naked choke. This was Ruth's first career defeat, and he will certainly have time to improve.

Ruth defeated Andy Murad via TKO (punches) at 4:59 of Round 2 at Bellator 201 on Friday in Temecula, Calif.
ANALYSIS
Despite Ruth's credentials, Murad tried to wrestle in the first round. Ruth, seemingly effortlessly, reversed the position and scored a takedown of his own. He sept the rest of the round on top landing ground and pound. In the second round, Ruth made it a point to keep the fight standing. He probably ate more strikes than he wanted to, but he scored the better strikes on the feet. Towards the end of the round, he stunned Murad and poured it on until the stoppage. The referee stepped in right before the second-round bell.
Passes another test, moves to 5-0 at Bellator 196

Ruth defeated Ion Pascu via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) at Bellator 196 on Friday in Budapest, Hungary.
ANALYSIS
Ruth picked up his fifth professional victory in this fight. It was not as easy as his other wins, and it was the first time he went to decision. Pascu was able to do some work on the outside with his striking, but Ruth's wrestling and forward pressure were the difference in this fight. The former Penn State wrestler has made strides with his striking, and he will continue to do so. He landed some solid kicks and power shots in this fight, but he showed virtually no defense and walked forward with his hands down. However, this fight showed that he has the wrestling pedigree he can rely on if he struggles to land on the feet. Also, this was Ruth's first bout below middleweight, as it was a 175-pound catchweight fight. If Ruth intends to fight at welterweight, he will have a physical advantage over most of his opponents.

Ruth defeated Chris Dempsey via KO (punch) at 0:27 of Round 2 at Bellator 186 on Friday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
It took a round for Ruth to get comfortable with his striking, but he came out in the second round with a purpose. He closed the distance and landed a nasty one-two combination that knocked Dempsey out cold. Ruth still needs a bit more polish, but it is hard to not see his promise as a prospect. The three-time national champion wrestler is now 4-0 with four knockout victories.
