July 31, 2014
Roush Fenway Racing announces that legendary NASCAR driver Martin is returning to the race team where he excelled behind the wheel for almost 20 years - this time as the team's driver development coach, roushfenway.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The recently retired Martin can't stay away from the race track. He has been hired by his former boss Jack Roush to mentor and coach the team's young drivers coming up through the lower divisions of NASCAR. Martin will be a great influence for drivers like Trevor Bayne and Chris Buescher as they work their way up the development ladder.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2008
2006
Martin moved into semi-retirement after the 2013 season. He will do some testing and driver coaching for Stewart-Haas Racing this season, but his days of racing on Sunday's are over.
The 54-year-old legend will saddle up for another part-time schedule with Michael Waltrip Racing in 2013. Martin will once again pilot the No. 55 Toyota under the guidance of crew chief Rodney Childers. The duo combined for four pole positions and 10 Top-10 finishes in just 24 starts last season. Martin narrowly missed victory lane on two occasions last year, so his level of performance was very high. We expect similar results from the veteran driver in the upcoming season. Martin should crest the 10 Top-10 finish plateau and possibly get back into winner’s circle.
2006 was supposed to be Martin's first retirement season, but a driver shakeup at Roush Racing caused owner Jack Roush to ask Martin for just one more season. Martin will be good for another Chase run in 2006, but don't expect another top 5 points result.
