Former NASCAR Truck Series team Martins Motorsports will compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series full time in 2020, with Martins as the primary driver for the number No. 44 Chevrolet, Martins Motorsports PR reports.

Martins only raced a half-schedule last season in this division of NASCAR spread among multiple teams. Martins Motorsports has secured the sponsorship and support to mount a full schedule in 2020. Martins will pilot the team's No. 44 Chevrolet in what should be his first full-time effort in a NASCAR national touring series. This small team faces some tough challenges ahead, but Martins 57-career Xfinity Series starts will help ease the pain.

Martins has combined forces with Caesar Bacarella to form Alpha Prime Racing. The new joint venture will field two cars for the full season in the upcoming year. Martins will share the No. 44 Chevrolet with a handful of other drivers to round out the 33-race schedule. The veteran driver grabbed 16 Top-20 finishes in 2021 for a very respectable campaign. We will likely see less of Martins and more of a driver rotation this season. That lack of continuity and youth movement will limit this team's performance to some degree. However, Dan Stillman will continue to call the shots from the pit box and give this team a good chance to compete each week.
The veteran driver had his most successful campaign last year after setting out on his own, with his own race team. Martins grabbed one Top-10 and nine Top-15 finishes while peddling to a respectable 20th-place points finish in his No. 44 Chevrolet. Everything across the boards were career-best marks for the 34-year-old driver. Martins will return this team again in 2021 and look to up the ante. He will once again have Buddy Sisco as crew chief and the two will look to build on the steady performance of last season. There is definite room for this team to improve and potentially push inside the Top 20 of the driver standings this season.
The veteran driver is going out on his own in 2020. Martins has raced part-time the past couple seasons with both B.J. McLeod Motorsports and Motorsports Business Management. So this is a completely new team for the upcoming season in an owner/driver arrangement for Martins. Startup teams face a lot of challenges and so will Martins' effort. The 33-year-old veteran does have 57 Xfinity Series starts to his credit, and that does help. However, the administration and funding issues of small race team can be crushing and a big distraction to the driving side of the business.
Martins made 19 starts between owner B.J. McLeod's two teams in 2018. He earned just three Top-20 finishes in those efforts. While Martins' schedule for the upcoming season has not been announced, it is believed he'll race a similar schedule for this same race team.

Martins has run his final race for BJ McLeod Motorsports. At a press conference at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Martins announced he would be moving to the No. 66 car for Motorsports Business Management for a six race schedule beginning next week at Watkins Glen, Tommy Joe Martins PR reports.
